i hate tom brady more than i've ever hated eli
its not like Eli had control over being invited to the Heisman ceremony in New York over Rivers, or getting drafted ahead of Rivers...its not his fault he has a familiar last name and a brother who's a great QB
I hope Rivers wins 10 Superbowls, but the only possible way I might've been able to pull for Brady last night would be if they were playing Dallas 2/4/2008 1:04:55 PM |

This is true. However, I still think that in a direct QB comparison, Rivers > Eli. The Chargers were seriously dinged up in the postseason, and that obviously hurt, plus Phil playing injured in the NE game. I'm not ripping on Eli...I mean, I don't particularly like him personally, but I'm a Giants fan. So I kinda have to hope he does well. But having a ring doesn't necessarily make him better, just like not having a ring didn't mean that Peyton was not a great QB before last season.

Haha, well said. Even if I wasn't a Giants fan, about the only team I like less than New England is Dallas. (And maybe Baltimore, that one's debatable.)2/4/2008 1:18:38 PM |

I think this whole argument is silly.
They are both good young quarterbacks who can become great quarterbacks if they maintain a high level of play.
Eli played a solid game yesterday, but that game was won on the backs of the defense.
Eli has a ring, Rivers does not. I don't think you can objectively claim that one is better than the other, but you can claim that Eli is more accomplished to date.
I believe Rivers will have a ring before too long, and then we state fans can vicariously celebrate a championship as if it were the pack. 2/4/2008 1:29:05 PM |

I don't have a major problem with Eli. It's his family that annoys me more than him.
He's been thrust into a tough situation and has handled the pressure admirably.
That said, I still think Rivers is the better QB, and I believe I am being objective. Eli threw up a lot of prayers that game that got answered by his recievers. He had a good game, but lets not get carried away. He still has a career passer rating in the 70's, and he's never completed 60% of his passes in a season. He also consistently ranks in the top of the league in interceptions.
You want to crown his ass, then crown his ass! But the backlash will be funny next year when he reverts to his usual form.

Quote : | "he did have control over being a whiny bitch about going to the chargers" |
he did, that is true
but come on, us State fans (myself included) didn't like Eli before the draft...it was because we were pissed off that Rivers didn't get the credit he deserved and Eli got a little more credit than he deserved (re: invited to Heisman ceremony)...since we already didn't like Eli, him refusing to sign with San Diego just made it easier to dislike him more
although if you recall Rivers' initial contract offer, and the ABSURDITY of the bonuses (4 Superbowls in his first 6 seasons or something), the Chargers DO tend to make some wild offers
I'm just glad Brady had the best season ever right in front of his face, then he collapsed
I do think the Giants' Defense should've gotten the MVP over Eli, but again, I'm just glad the Patriots lost!
^i agree the defense was the most integral part of the win, but some of Eli's 3rd down conversions were pretty damn impressive...I'd either give the MVP to Strahan, or the D-Line, or just the entire defense
