"Yes, I'm aware correlation does not equal causation. The results are hilarity incarnate regardless of causality."
This compares average SAT scores to college students favorite books with Facebook data.
Funny even if it's not accurate.

This is a biased sample. I teach middle schoolers how to randomize population pickings. Your thread failed.

it is a "mandatory read" in many high school classes though, so I imagine it's in a short list of "only reads" for a certain demographic
on a related note, I found it on the shelf the other day and flipped through a few pages to see if a decade of aging hadn't changed my interpretation

All the "erotic" books should also go under African American. I've never read any of Zane. I just remember seeing that section in the store for the first time and getting really pissed off cause that was my business idea. I was gonna make billions of dollars running a Harlequin-type line of books for black women. My sister and I came up with the plan like ten years ago.
And my favorite book and quite possibly the only book on that list that I'd ever put on Facebook is Their Eyes Were Watching God, and that's at 955. Not bad! I'm just barely off that scale so I can't really match myself up, but I can say I've never read Lolita, 100 Years, or C/P. I did read Freakonomics though, which pretty much cements my status as a sheep.

^AHA
But seriously, they used the college's average SAT scores, and none of the colleges had an average that high.
(Some of the colleges did have averages that high, but the books weren't liked uniquely enough by those colleges to appear that high on the scale. And if there were books liked uniquely by those schools, then they probably wouldn't be popular enough to appear in the top 100.)
