then it's probably first-class and you can use it no matter what, even if stamps rise to $1 (or higher, obviously) 2/5/2008 6:18:19 PM |

all the ones that say "first class" can be used. They did that so you don't have to go buy new stamps every two months when they change it. 2/5/2008 6:19:00 PM |

why would they do that....? I mean doesn't that mean that you could send out mail using $.34 when it should be $.39 for a hell of a long time? 2/5/2008 6:21:54 PM |

true...but if i'm not mistaken, you can use a stamp marked "first class" even after the postal rate change, but only within the US proper

^^THe same (*#$& thing happened to me last week. I was IRATE when I got the letter returned for an extra 2 cents postage. What the hell makes a first class stamp first class if I cant even mail a damn letter with it ?!!? 2/5/2008 6:31:47 PM |
Biofreak70 All American 33197 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, i'd be pissed... so i don't even give it a chance to happen to me... i figure i mail out 2-4 things a month, so whatever i spend on it, i could care less (especially since i save so much more now with automated/online billing) 2/5/2008 6:38:08 PM |

No kiddo - Forever stamps have a liberty bell on it and say 'forever' so you can go 500 of them now and use them after rates go up..... 2/5/2008 8:31:02 PM |

well I didn't know there was actually something called a 'forever stamp'.... I was being lead to believe that a stamp that had 'FIRST-CLASS' stamped on it must be a stamp that would last forever because it doesn't say how much it cost but just that it was 'FIRST-CLASS' and honestly, how in the fuck are you supposed to know which 'deal' you got on your stamp if it says the same thing on all of them 2/5/2008 9:27:20 PM |

[old]
they started using "forever stamps" a year ago
but old stamps (someone mentioned 2002) are not retroactively "forever stamps"
if you've still got old ones, then yeah, you'll have to do some math
but if you go and buy 1000 stamps right now (for .41, or .42?) you can use them for first class mail FOREVER
or at least until china takes over 2/6/2008 8:23:56 AM |

I hate when I send something out that needs to get there ASAP, and it takes them a week before sending it back to me because I didn't have two cents worth of extra postage on there. 2/6/2008 8:48:34 AM |

I used a breast cancer stamp long after they had raised the rates and it went through fine. They have raised them more since then, so maybe it matters now. 2/6/2008 8:59:08 AM |

The breast cancer stamp is, in effect, a forever stamp. They do that with a few charity-type ones. It's just the bell forever ones were the first ones that advertised it. 2/6/2008 9:14:37 AM |

I was unaware (ok, I never really looked since I haven't mailed anything that wasn't business reply until last month in about 2 years) that a forever stamp existed. I just looked at the book I bought last month, and they are the liberty bell forever stamps. I think maybe I'll go and get a fucking roll or two now and never have to worry about stamps again. 2/6/2008 9:22:37 AM |
