Ran across the first real new on Guitar Hero IV that is scheduled to come out at the end of the year.

"Guitar Hero IV: First Song, Vague Release Date Revealed
By Earnest Cavalli February 06, 2008 | 5:02:08 PMCategories: Console Games

In a recent press release, British rock group The Answer revealed two major details about the upcoming Guitar Hero IV: the game will be released at the end of 2008 and The Answer's "Never Too Late" will appear on the soundtrack.

Certainly no one is surprised that we'll be seeing a new Guitar Hero this year, but it is a bit odd to hear about it from one of the soundtrack bands before Activision has even announced the development of the title.

The press release gave no further details on the upcoming game, but hopefully now that the cat is out of the bag Activision will reveal more info -- specifically details of who appears on the soundtrack."

" Guitar Hero IV this year
News by Rob Purchese

Yesterday

Guitar Hero IV will be released at the end of 2008, according to an unlikely press release from British band The Answer.

Its song "Never Too Late" will feature in the line-up, apparently, after being picked out at the Marché international de l'édition musicale (or Midem conference) held at the end of January.

More than 200 songs were submitted by music companies at the enormous industry trade fair, and Activision (plus experts) chose just 20 of them to appear in Guitar Hero IV.

The Answer are obviously chuffed to bits, as sales of the rhythm-action series and its downloadable content have boosted participating bands' sales in the past.

"This is a tremendous honour and privilege for both The Answer and the Alberts label," said James Cassidy, UK boss of music label Alberts.

"With a new album due later this year we look forward to taking the band to a whole new level of international success."

Meanwhile, Activision UK stuck to no comment.

I heard something that they were making Guitar Hero IV exclusively Aerosmith songs. Maybe they are just making an addition to GH3 with Aerosmith like they did with Rock the 80s.

I would guess that if anything they are going to keep the main series going the same way and keep releasing side projects as well. I for one would not buy a GH that was nothing but Aerosmith. THey need to do genre specific games. GH rocks Metal, GH rocks Punk, etc.

Yes. Genres would definitely be the next step I would think. I don't mind playing the mixes they have now but sometimes I just want to play Bloc Party and Weezer without having to worry about Slayer or Disturbed.

I don't think I'd buy another GH. I'm sick of making it through 85-90% of the game half asleep before finally finding something challenging.

I've had a lot more fun with the guitar parts on Rockband than I did with GH3.

shit, I am just the opposite. the guitar parts on rock band are ridiculously easy until the last set. GH3 has some good songs mixed throughout. Of course, I play them on expert, so I expect them to be easy for me, because I am such a GH nerd.

^Since I only have a PC I was only able to check out GHIII. Later I got a chance to check out GHII and I was surprised by how much better it was.

I'll probably just try my luck with Frets on Fire from here on. Seems kind of pointless to continue with GH when the first 5 sets of songs are something you wish you could just skip over so you could get to more challenging songs in the last few sets.

i won't be buying anymore GH either. i'm sticking with rockband. i like having options (instruments and music genre). all of GHIII sounded the same. rockband has more of the actual music i listen to.

I agree that GH2 > GH3, but I can't quite figure out what it is about it that makes it better.

^Well I haven't gotten to the insanely difficulties but for easy and medium...

GHIII - the "notes" don't even match the music most of the time. There are several times where the rhythm game seems completely random. You have to separate yourself from the music, otherwise you'll screw up because you are adding the note where it would intuitively go. heck, there are even some areas where the guitar notes follow the keyboards instead of the guitar. GHII wasn't as bad in this respect.

One of the key differences that I've noticed was where GHII would have three consecutive notes that followed three consecutive notes in the song GHIII would just have one sustained note. The result was a boring, non-challenging song.

^ yup.

The songs never match up with the notes on easy and medium. That's what expert is for. I haven't noticed that at all on expert on any of the Guitar Hero games.

trust me, on hard and expert the notes match and there are plenty of them to provide a challenge. obviously the result of easy/medium levels is a boring and non-challenging song. that's why hard and expert are so much more fun.

Yes, that much I understand. What I'm saying is that on easy/medium GHII does a much, much better job of matching things up with the song, whereas in GHIII there are several sections of the song where what they have you do is completely random.

idk why anyone would be excited for GH4.
3 already did a pretty good job of trashing up the franchise, and I'm sure activision has even more "improvements" in store for us

I won't be buying this because of their dick move in not letting their PS3 guitars be compatible with Rock Band. Harmonix wanted to release a patch to make this work, and they blocked it.

yeah i dont understand that shit at all. i would have gladly paid for a guitar hero 3 set so i could have a better guitar for rockband. rockband really needs to make guitars with a clicky strum bar. they could sell it separate from the set and still make a lot of money.

I hope it is compatible with the Rock Band drum set.

Cause people aren't gonna wanna buy a whole new fucking guitar and drum set to play this.

There is no way it will be compatible. They've already shown their stance on that subject.

Let the battle for band exclusives begin. This is one of those rare cases where competition is actually going to hurt the consumers. Sucks, cuz there's no way i'm buying GH4. For one, I don't want my living room to be full of fake plastic instruments and secondly I want all my music in one place.

Not necessarily, the Guitar Hero guitars on the 360 are compatible with Rock Band. But the only people who are gonna buy all the crap for Guitar Hero 4 are gonna be the people who don't already have Rock Band.

The songs on GH IV would have to be out-of-this-world-awesome drum songs for me to even CONSIDER buying another toy drum set. I've already got a real drum set and one toy drum set.

And I'm assuming you can use GHIII guitar on it, so I'd only have to buy the game and the drums if I were so inclined.

But I mean, it would have to be overwhelming for me to even THINK about it.

the GH3 guitar will prob. work with GH4, but you might miss out on some "new gameplay features" according to Activision. see: we want more of your money.

I had the Wii version of GH3 but I sent it in for a refund when they offered one due to the surround sound bug. IMHO, no DLC = FAIL.

i can't see GH winning this battle. harmonix created guitar hero, then sold it so they could focus on creating rock band. all activision has done is made GH worse while harmonix has one-upped themselves in creating rock band. rock band wins. i haven't even played GH3 one time since buying rock band.

I agree. Unless the exclusive GH4 songs are Zeppelin or something of that caliber (i.e.: nothing else), I probably won't be buying this game.

The library for Rock Band is substantial and grows weekly. By the time GH4 comes out, most of the relevant music may be spoken for.

my guess as to why 2 was better than 3 was because they probably had a list of songs that would go awesome with the game for the first 2 installments, and by the time 3 came out they were scraping the bottom of the barrel

But do you really expect them to just sit there and not try to catch up with the rest of the industry? Why only focus on guitar when it's obvious that having several instruments is a winning formula?

There are still plenty of songs out there for them to use. Have there been any Zep, ACDC, Ozzy, or Alice In Chains songs yet(just to name a few)? I only own GH3 which is why I'm asking. Not to mention the different genres they can do like mentioned before. They have got to put out an all Metal game. The drums for that would be so fun.

^There has been an Ozzy/Black Sabbath song in each rendition of Guitar Hero except the 80s one and there was an Alice in Chains song in the second one. In fact the first Guitar Hero had "Iron Man" and "Bark at the Moon".

What they need is some more 80s Metallica.

^That would be great with the bass too. I want some Mastodon as well. I know that you can download Sleeping Giant but it comes in a pack with two songs I don't want.

It would also be funny listening to people trying to sing Death Metal

actually, harmonix pretty much just copied konamis guitar freaks and then merged it with drum mania for rock band. they did it really well, but konami started it all. which is hilarious because they are finally putting forth a music game for the states that looks like it will suck
