Not to sound like a neo-con pundit, but that is an issue in parts of Western Europe right now. You have a tradition of classical western liberalism coming up against a large mass of immigrants who are reacting to their status as outsiders by embracing the more strident facets of their faith.

The question is, does Western Europe have the balls to stand up for classical liberalism, or will they just hide behind it?

That is the issue I think.

If the religion doesn't conflict with the law, then they can do whatever they want. And i don't see a problem with civil matters between 2 consenting religious members to be handled their own way either.

^thats a good point but Sharia law is pretty straight forward with no compromise...its kinda like the old saying about don't bring out a sword when all you need is a pocket knife.

Sharia law and Britain's laws can't coincide without mucho conflicto.

^ I don't think sharia law is really that straight forward with no compromise. If it were, then the muslim societies in Britain wouldn't be able to function at all. Considering that they are, it's clearly not as cut and dry as we are made to believe. And really, what ever is?

whatever the case, there is going to be too much time/money/energy spent on making this more complicated than it really is.

Personally, if I moved to Saudi Arabia,Pakistan, whatev....I would expect to live under and abide by whatever laws they have in place for their country.

This business of trying to conform a host country's domestic laws to fit their own cultural comfort level is absolutely ridiculous. It only strengthens the negative opinions/notions that everyone has about them.

Lol we've been buying kosher food for decades. It's literally the exact same principle. And there are away more Muslims in Europe than Jews I bet. Seems racist to cater to Jews, but not to the more prevalent, lucrative Muslims.

Not to mention it seems like half the subways in Raleigh are owned by Muslims.

Seems like there should be a workaround to sell the pork to customers that want it though. That sucks. Stupid religions.

Even if we call it a market driven change, the part that pisses me off is the "market" is demanding that other consumers not have their way.
