my friend had one and took it back to best buy for a refund, you should try that if it hasn't been too long. just tell them it doesn't work right - you're not lying, it doesn't play an available media format.

he also took back the planet earth package, which is like $80 itself. it was opened so the conversation went something like this:

cashier: we can't take back opened media unless something is wrong with it and you can exchange for the same thing
friend: can i exchange for the same thing in blu-ray?
cashier: no, it has to be the same format.
friend: ok, i want to exchange it.
cashier: is something wrong with it.
friend: yes.

the end result, take the new unopened package to wal-mart.

Actually Microsoft just announced they're abandoning HD-DVD and the add-on as of yesterday.....the mentions of the $50 price before were merely sales in anticipation of that move....it wasn't official until yesterday
