...preferrably one with a distributor. '76 or newer Buick 231, or maybe a Chevy 229. I'd even consider one of the 60 deg. GM V6's as long as it's one with a dizzy. Preferrably in tolerable running condition, though I'd consider one needing a rebuild/refresh.

I'd even consider any of the Ford Cologne V6 engines or even a 232/3.8.

I'd actually PREFER a 60 deg. engine for sizing reasons.

OHC engines will NOT work for my purposes (don't ask; you'll find out in due time).

This is NOT a big money project, BTW.

$600 but it fits the bill and you could probably make some money parting the rest of the car out (that rebuilt transmission would fetch a few hundred by itself I'd bet...)

Also a possibility? Would a '96 3.1 still have a distributor, or had they likely gone away from that by then? Could also depend on if "needs head gasket" means any other damage.

you don't want no junk essex motor. cologne either, they cracked heads like it was their job. vulcans are fairly solid units.

also, don't look past the chrysler 3.3 and 3.8 either. not stellar engines, but not terrible either. they were also crammed into fairly small packages with all that cab foward bullshit. the magnum 3.9 is a hell of a motor, it was just a 5.2 with 2 cylinders chopped off.

3.3/3.8 are distributorless of course. the 3.9 has one, though its function isn't conventional. what's the reasoning behind a dizzy?

Funny you should mention that...

Right outside of Washington there's one that's painted like a Dr. Pepper can, only it reads "Dr. Pumper"

But no, I'm not building a doodymobile. And why with a dizz? Needs to have a standalone ignition system. There will be a carb on this one.
