So I have a 26" visio 720p HDTV, 16:9 aspect ratio and 1366X768 native resolution. I just bought a new desktop computer w/o out a monitor hoping to use the TV for a display, the comuter is runing Vista x64 (vista sucks, i should have gotten XP), with a nVidia 8600 GT video card. I used an HDMI cable to connect the two. I have the video card set on the 720 resolution, but it still looks pretty bad, the closest resolution the video card has to the native of the TV is 1360X768 but that is to big for the screen, and for some reason this is the only resolution the screen resizer doesn't work on(which makes no sense). I have read about programs you can download to make custom resolutions and I have tried a couple of them but they never work ( I think due to vista's gayness), does any one have any ideas, or should i just buy a monitor?

720p is a terrible resolution for a monitor imho but thats just me... i mean my 15" laptop is over ____x1000. I don't understand why it won't work with your tv, my laptop graphics card (also an 8600gt) knew the native resolution on my 1080p samsung instantly and thats what it output.

when i hook up my laptop to our 32" LCD (via HDMI), i have to set it to xxxx by 800 to get it to display properly...might be 1360x800, but it's definitely 800px high

how old is your vizio? if its older, then update.

if its new, then just use it.

no, you don't need to buy a 1080i TV...

I was just saying that mine worked pretty much immediately across DVI... HOWEVER there are several TV's that don't automatically adjust...

give 1600x900 a shot, play with the resolutions... none of them are going to "hurt" the tv some are just clearly going to look better. choose the one that looks the best with enough resolution to serve the purposes of a PC monitor...

if you can't be happy with it, NCSU surplus has $1 21" CRT's...
