my music collecton is full of thousands and thousands of all kinds of music, and growing still.... but unfortunately it is growing sideways. more and more live/old/rare recordings of the same bands. i dont think i've listened to more than a few new artrists in years

i hope thats just old man syndrome, i'd hate to think i lost my love for good music. hopefully just lost the time to seek out new music

little story, kinda sad. but in the end turns into my theory about new music

a strange thing happened about 2 weekends ago. i got a call one sunday morning saying that my old neighbor (from my neighborhood growing up/in hs) got in an accident and died a few hours prior. he was only 18, and actually was born the year my family moved into that house. so when they moved in next door, he was just a few months old. i was friends with the dad, and knew the guy for for the first 11 years of his life. him and his brother were like little brothers to me, i always played with them after school and stuff. (yeah yeah, i must admit that im not the monster i make myself out to be on here). very sad stuff, but thats not the point, just the background

anyways back in like 01 or 02, i moved officially to raleigh and didnt see the family that much for a while. then got that call. freaked me out. so i drove to fuquay when i heard, and spent the evening with his family cause i felt really bad for his dad and especially his brother (who has downs syndrome). i had to get back for monday morning, so i couldnt stay too late.

but when i did get back, i checked out his mysace page to leave a little comment. spent some time reading the page and was amazed how much of 'my music' that he liked. it was a very musically oriented page. tons of playlists and stuff. but many new bands (2000+) on there at all - maybe a lot of the newer stuff does suck afteralll. long story short, after spendin a good amount of time listening to the favorite music of typical popular 18 y/o kid, i think theres just not much good music out lately. cause if dude thought it was worth a fuck, it would have been on that page.

^^^I was going that route last summer, but after downloading the 14gb "The Doors" bootleg anthology, I realized I had to stop. My life was going nowhere while on that mindset.
