Well, I decided I use windows so much for work that I was going to stop using vmware and give bootcamp a shot... So, I opened it up and on the first screen where you set the partition size, i set those how i wanted them..hit partition and a few minutes later the computer locked up and gave the screen saying i have to hold the button down to restart. i restarted and the space on the mac hd is down to where it should be (i.e. 30gb or so less than it was before i partitioned) but there is no other partition. running bootcamp again tells me "use disk utility to repair the disks", I tried that and the repair option isn't available, and it won't finish going through the verify process.

So, what am I doing wrong here or what do I do now? I'm trying to find the CD's that came with thing to just start over and give it a shot from a fresh install but seems like I really shouldn't have this much trouble trying to do this..

nvm, booting into safe boot or whatever its called automatically runs a repair disk in disk utility and that fixed it right up

Thanks for the reply though

Well... another problem. Now bootcamp is saying there are some files it can't move so to "back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single mac os extended volume, restore your information and try again"

seems like a lot of shit I shouldn't have to do

heh, i'll go back to my original question. if you have a corrupted partition list of some sort, it's possible to re-combine the partitions using diskutil and try again.

hold on, trying to make a new partition using diskutil by itself real quick..if that doesn't work i'll get you the info you need

says this...

0: GUID_partition)scheme *111.8 Gi disk0
1: EFI 200.0 Gi disk0s1
2: Apple-HFS Macintosh HD 111.3 Gi disk0s2

EFI is akin to BIOS on most standard PCs, only here it's stored on the HD in a very small partition right at the front of the drive.

Your partition scheme looks fine actually. You may need to actually find your Mac OS X DVD and boot from it, then select one of the menu commands to run Disk Utility and check your HD. My guess is that when you did it earlier, you did it just directly from your HD.

Yeah I did... I'm trying to follow these directions and see if I can get any results..

http://blogs.sun.com/paulm/entry/dual_partitioning_a_macbook_pro

I enabled root access and just started this process to see if it does anything...

Oh wait.. I just went back into bootcamp and it's acting like partitions are there now... hmm, hold on

[Edited on February 23, 2008 at 6:04 PM. Reason : I'm not sure if enabling root access did something or something else did...but seems to be working]

Ok, now it's created the partition but it isn't sized right, gr. I got into windows setup and one partition was 115gb, other was 0... Can I resize this other partition or do I have to delete it and recreate it?

Your mac's immune system is rejecting windows.

it did whaaaaaaaat? okay, that's definitely weird. i'd definitely agree with Bootcamp's advice from earlier and suggest that you start from scratch. something went wrong during your set up process somwhere. i've messed around with both Bootcamp and using diskutil to create and merge all sorts of partitions (tried to make my own MacBook Pro triple-boot), and it sounds like Bootcamp isn't setting things up for you correctly at all.

Nah, it keeps locking up everytime I have it create or do anything to a fat32 partition... Ah well, my freakin install disks are at work so I guess it'll be Monday before I can get this done, which royally sucks.

There's no way to make install disks from OS X is there?
