He's married to Norm Sloan's niece and obviously very good friends with Sloan. And yes, like I said when UT hired him. They'll be a perennial powerhouse with Bruce Pearl

^ Yeah, that came to mind... but Pearl was at U. Mil-Wisc so it was definetely a huge step up. With the family ties it would have been a formality. About the only thing that might have stopped it would be if a Kentucky/UCLA/other 'dynasty' school came calling at the same time (UT has the money, but NCSU would have been the better job..especially for Pearl) or if our board of trustees wouldn't allow it due to his incident as an assitant coach at Iowa and the recruitment of Deon Thomas. He doesn't have the best of reputations because of this (Unjustly, IMO).

Part of the reason I really wanted Herb gone was becuase I knew we could get Pearl.

Alas, we're NC State and we blew that chance.

...and UT is #1.

He made the sweet 16 with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee...beating #5 seed Alabama and #4 seed Boston College to get there.

They wound up losing to #1 Illinois (The year they went to the NC game) in the sweet 16

Pearl had been at UT for a year during our coaching search and had about a $3 Million buyout.

We were idiots for not getting him a year earlier... although we had a coach that couldn't justifiably be let go. If only Herb had left a year earlier. Once again, he stuck it to NC State

^^the conversation had nothing to do with his buyout. It was more of a wolfweb idiosyncracy. I don't know if I can explain it well, but it was a flat out dismissal of the guy based on his outward- projecting personality.
