Okay, so my girlfriend just moved here from Greensboro, but she's doing some work for a design thing at UNCG this spring. Over there they have a sewing lab which gives you access to, among other things, different sizes of dress forms. She's got a fancy-schmancy sewing machine, and supplies and, you know, "notions", so she's pretty much set, but is there something like this at (or around) NC State? Thanks. 2/25/2008 12:48:17 AM |

Probably Meredith. I believe they offer Ph.Ds in sewing, cross-stitching, and the like. 2/25/2008 6:20:44 AM |

State has an art center, where you can sign up for crafty stuff like pottery and light metal working...I'll dig around and see if they have fabric stuff....ambrosia might know if textile had a sewing lab
I just looked at the craft center http://www7.acs.ncsu.edu/crafts/index.html I don't think they can help but it could be worth a phone call

Paging textile major concentrating in fashion development...
I'd give better advice, but I was a brand management and marketing concentration so I only had 3 or 4 classes that were in the apparel lab so I didn't use much of the resources available there.
It may also only be available to majors... plus, everyone knows everyone there so it might be a bit awkward.
Anyways, Dr. Istook and Mrs. Garland (that actually might be her maiden name... her first name is Genevieve) from the CoT and others would be good to contact... Istook can tell you anything you need to know about the apparel lab and what's available resource-wise.
OH - Other thing I just remembered, she needs to have a steady hand and be experienced... a lot of the stuff is industry-supplied machines and they are FAST
Good luck!
