2 Men Held in Scrap Plant Ammo Case to Appear in Court
Quote : | "Two of the four men held in connection with selling live military ammunition to a Raleigh scrap-metal recycling plant are due in federal court today to face immigration charges.
While their appearance involves their allegedly being in the U.S. illegally, investigators are interested in the men for nearly three dozen more reasons.
Police say Adrian Nunez-Aviles and Javier Gomez-Urieta were connected to military explosives found at Raleigh Metals Recycling more than a week ago. Some of the ammunition detonated during processing and injured two workers.
Homes and buildings near the plant were evacuated for several days while Army experts detonated the rest of the ammunition.
A search of the suspects’ homes in Sanford turned up more ammunition, including anti-tank weapons, spent shells and .50-caliber bullets.
Manuel Sanchez Uriosteget, Adrian Nunez-Aviles and brothers Javier Gomez-Urieta and Salvador Gomez-Urieta were all arrested on immigration violations and were held for questioning in the munitions case.
The FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the case." |

Nice. Although I doubt there was any maliciousness if they were selling it to a scrap metal facility and the media is notoriously wrong when it comes to getting details, especially of military hardware, right.2/25/2008 11:57:13 AM |

It is a follow up to the original story, not completely new . . . I probably should have just bumped an old thread. Oh well, ciest la vie. *shrug*2/25/2008 12:02:41 PM |
