Now you know why the good schools are never targeted for investigation, bad for the NCAA and bad for the commissioner and his office...and by bad I mean less dollars for all. I would think that the position of Conference Commissioner would be a lot easier than A.D of a BCS team. Obviously not by the numbers. 2/25/2008 10:34:10 PM |

^^ They manage a multi-million dollar business. I'm guessing you'd see similar compensation in other multi-million dollar businesses.
He assumes the risk for failure, I'm guessing he has to make deals, get sponsorships, oversee the organization of events, raise money, maintain the quality of the product etc.

Nah, I doubt there are many CEOs making that level of bank in multi-million dollar businesses, even considering stock compensations (unless they're like a founder/owner of course). Now multi-billion dollar businesses, sure.
But you do make a good point. I had forgotten about all the money involved with managing contracts with networks, merchandising, and shit like that. Still, it seems like these guys are getting overpaid. I wonder if there is public information on just how much money the conferences make, anyone know? 2/25/2008 11:02:55 PM |

You are wrong about CEO pay. Hell, an average engineer with 10+ years of experience is easily going to make more than 100k. The CEO is going to make a hell of a lot more than their average engineer.

Why isn't there a rule that the commissioner of each league be a graduate of another conference school so there is no chance of bias? 2/26/2008 1:13:35 AM |

Salary comparisons for executives are silly if you don't look at what sort of performance incentives they have.
Those usually eclipse base salary by an order of magnitude, especially in the private sector. 2/26/2008 12:57:43 PM |
