Yarr, there's been books and such written about this sort of thing for years and years.
The only issue with a robot arms race is that, if one country simply has a major technological advantage over the countries where they are going to war, there is not going to be any robot arms race. Other highly developed countries may start their own programs, but for the most part these countries don't go to war with each other these days. Hopefully it stays that way.
Myself, I am a much, MUCH bigger fan of remotely operated devices instead of completely autonomous weapons platforms. The person will always make a better decision than the robot.
Some exceptions to my views on that are cruise missiles and self-guided weapons systems (I just don't think jets should be deciding who to go shoot out of the sky for themselves).
