New 2008 Ford Escape back door behind driver will not open from the inside or out. It opened fine before leaving for work, once I got to work it won't open. Any ideas. I've had the car less than a week. Obviously I'm taking it to the dealer, just wondering if there might be a quick fix.

if it won't open from in or out, it's probably a linkage problem. if it's just the inside, check to see if the child lock switch got hit somehow. it should be in the edge of the door somewhere probably.

it's not the childs lock because it won't open from the outside either.

ok, well:

specfically it's probably broken/fallen off in the "locked" position. either way, don't waste another damn minute worrying about it. you have a warranty for a reason, it'll probably take 15-20 minutes for them to pop the door panel off and fix it.

[Edited on February 28, 2008 at 9:15 AM. Reason : i'm going to assume you definitely have manually unlocked it (you'd be surprised]

did you remember to top off your door-lock fluid reservoir? it's located under the hood on the passenger side. usually the door farthest from it fails first if it gets low so it makes sense the left rear door isn't working.

^^ I doubt that's it, since the car only has 100 miles on it, but maybe they didn't fill it all the way to begin with.

^ thanks for being so helpful, why didn't i think of that

^ is that pretty damn funny because there's no way that could be the problem?

So far the Escape is great. It drives and rides great...it looks really nice too...went with black and chrome.

wont open as in it doesnt unlock?

lol my parents have a ford mini van and the fuckin locks on that thing have broken 2 or 3 times completely and are sometimes intermittent. Enjoy.

hopefully you purchased the extended warranty. Just take it back to the dealer.
