i like sushi blues, mainly because it's just a block and a half away from me, but i'll be damned if i go there on half price night. The crowd is not worth it to me.

^^Go to "Taiyo" in Charlotte. I rarely get sushi in Raleigh anymore because i started going to that place. The most amazing sushi i've had in a while.

^^^ yeah it is. But i promise it's worth the 2 hour drive. It's a "pan asian" place and the cooks can make whatever you want. So if anyone is in Charlotte look up "Taiyo" and i promise you won't be dissapointed.

Sushi Thai is bad, Sushi Blues is bad. Waraji isn't too bad, but there's nothing special, it's overpriced and the wait is really long.

There's a place called Shiki Sushi right behind Southpoint. I think it's REALLY good and every single day they have buy one get one free. I got 4 really nice rolls (10$+ at this place and most other places) and walked out with a $21 bill. Anyone who likes Sushi should try this place.

There's a place that just opened at Glenwood/Oberlin. Looks good

I've learned that Raleigh is really bad in general when it comes to sushi compared to Durham/Chapel Hill. However, there are a few good places.

Shabshabu is really good. They put asparagus in all their rolls, I don't like that, so I get it without. Their wolfpack roll will make you nut/moist your pants.

I'll add more places as I think of them.

LOCALE SUSHI SUCKS MAN, YOU SHOULD GO TO THIS SUSHI JOINT IN JAPAN. I rarely get sushi in Raleigh anymore because i started going to that place. The most amazing sushi i've had in a while.
I promise it's worth the 2 day trip. It's a "pan asian" place and the cooks can make whatever you want. So if anyone is in Japan look up "Sushi joint across the street" and i promise you won't be dissapointed.

^actually sushi originated in China then was brought to japan. They rolled fish in rice w/ vinager in it to preserve the fish. Sushi in japan is good too. It's a little different then your typical sushi here though. Alot more Nigiri and less maki. But yeah check out Taiyo if anyones in Charlotte.

^^^^ sushi evolved from a cuisine that came from China. Just like almost everything in Japan ultimately did.

so you're complaining about no good sushi places, yet you only will get sushi from HT?

.....ok.

I like sushi blues cause its a nice atmosphere (hot waitresses) and the sushi is ok. Shiki Sushi is pretty damn good.

I've eaten at most of these places, and Asahi in Cary (near crossroads) is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest IMO. I felt like a schmuck sitting at Sushi Blues with a tiny little sliver of Tuna in my roll, overwhelmed by cream cheese and other unnecessary filler. Not that I'm questioning the "authenticity," but it was an assembly line of prep cooks haphazardly throwing together sushi rolls, when it seemed like they should be piecing together burritos at Chipotle. No racism here whatsoever, I'd just opt for a less commercialized experience at Asahi. *steps down off soap box

Quote :
"The fish tapeworm is a broad, long worm, often growing to lengths of 3-7 feet at maturity and capable of attaining 30 feet. It is the longest tapeworm invading humans with as many as 4,000 segments (proglottids). The main body of the worm is virtually filled with male and female reproductive organs allowing it to produce an incredible number of eggs, often more than 1,000,000 a day. The adult attaches to the wall of the intestine with the aid of two sucking grooves located in its head (scolex).

This tapeworm is sometimes called a broad fish tapeworm, because the reproductive segments are usually broader than they are long. The adult is ivory or grayish-yellow in color and can live in humans for 20 years. Humans are the final host of this worm, but first it must pass through a tiny freshwater crustacean, and then to a fish. The larva that infects people, a 'plerocercoid', is frequently found in the intestines of freshwater and marine fish. It is sometimes found in the flesh of freshwater fish or in fish that are migrating from salt waters to fresh water for breeding.

You can be infected by eating raw, lightly cooked, under-processed freshwater or certain migratory species of salmon, perch, pike, pickerel, and turbot. The popularity of eating raw fish dishes, such as Japanese sushi and sashimi, helps to spread this disease. Cooks who sample their fish dishes before they are properly cooked put themselves at risk of being infected. Fish tapeworms are found wherever humans, bears, and other fish-eating mammals defecate in the same lakes and streams from which this fish are obtained.

Most infected people do not produce any symptoms. During the acute stage of disease, which has its onset about 10 days after eating raw or insufficiently cooked fish, the symptoms may be similar to other tapeworm infections. This includes symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal discomfort and pain, flatulence, vomiting, nausea, and weakness. Chronic infestations may produce some of the same symptoms or only vague discomforts including fullness in the upper abdomen, water retention, loss of weight, and malnutrition. Some people are constantly hungry because the tapeworms are eating most of the food. There are times when the worm gets so large that it will cause a colon blockage. In some people a severe anemia may develop, because of this tapeworm's ability to consume most of its host's vitamin B12. Folate may be reduced as well. With the anemia that results, neurological symptoms can manifest including numbness, loss of vibration sense, and even some eye symptoms.
