If you had 2k for a TV. What would you buy?

The only requirement is that it has to be hung on a wall and hopefully at least 42 in.

I am looking to buy in the next day or two. I feel like every time I walk into a store people are too pushy for me to actually get to look at anything.

don't spend 2k on a tv. Buy a good one for 1k. And then buy a second one for me

I was really hoping for recommendations.

I mean if I could get something reasonable for 1500 I would like that. I want to also have some sort of audio/surround sound.

I am a girl and have limited knowledge about these things. I swear every person in like Sears and Best Buy can smell that I have no clue.

don't get a DLP

LCD or Plasma sounds like what you need

make sure its 1080P

HDMI slots, the more the better

I think with those basics, you'll be happy with your purchase

Pioneer's 42" plasma is on clearance now for 1500 and is easily the best TV in that price range if you're looking for 42".

And if you buy it at Best buy you can get it wall mounted for another $200 more which includes hooking the stuff up.

edit: the Philips is pretty mediocre if you're looking for that size http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8251447&st=4661&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1169512521541 this is a nicer TV for just a little more

What makes the difference between brands? Will one type last that much longer? What makes Phillips bad? What makes Pioneer or Samsung good?

There's a costco in north raleigh on wake forest rd just inside the beltline, they usually have display models of all the TV's they carry. So if you were really thinking about the ones they have you can see them before hand. Iirc you can get a free pass for the day or pay $5 bucks to get in since they have membership requirements. You'd probably get better deal prices through Best Buy, though.

Do yourself a favor and buy all of your cables from monoprice.com - don't buy the bullshit on the shelves at Best Buy, etc.

^ or be smart and only buy a tv from best buy if you can get them to price match - it's cheaper during deals/specials - but currently it's $1,809.98 on amazon.com with free shipping/no tax
