it's a chevy.... but a c5 z06 can be had for 22k in decent condition. You could keep your four door rice rocket for the car seat. Food for thought. Damn thing costs less then an m3 would depreciate in 2 years and is probably faster.

You can also get the radio for it out of a cavalier if the tap deck ever jams. Think about how many people will make fun of you for driving a 5 year old car though. **Shudder**

Actually, it's an Exige, but whatever right?

How about less bickering and more posting of pictures of the cars you people say you see.

I guess Lambo's aren't reliable? Cause their motors are "hand" built... fuck its a good thing I bought a Kia instead. I wonder how long a non-hand built motor would last compared to nascar, indy, or nhra motors?
Human errors do happen, on shit fuck cars made in India

ahaha, the n00b FTW!

in all seriousness, RSX seems to be an okay guy overall. he's just got a bad case of having to be right all the time and getting the last word in at any expense. unfortunately, it usually leads to him looking like a moron and costs him any credibility on the subject.

Quote :
"He doesn't really want the fastest track car. He wants a car that will make him look prestigious on the street, that he can daily driver, occasionally track and lose shit tons of money on."

exactly. if he would just admit this, there wouldn't have even been any discussion. hell, all of us buy stuff for vain reasons to some extent. it's not like we don't have some history here to back up our theories either. rsx to evo to gtr? come on, it's like a scenario straight out of gran turismo. there's no need to church it up like you're doing it for the ultimate performance.

lol. These last few posts have had some good entertainment value. And who mentioned buying a 3-5 year old 997 Turbo? Those have barely been out 3 years, let alone 5!

On topic I'll say I saw a (dirty) black C63 AMG today. Not really an exotic, but I see maybe 1 or 2 of those for every 10 pretenders I see driving around in E39 M3s.

well to be exact, i went from Jeep > RSX > STi > Evo

And in all honestly if I went with an M3 that would really be more of a 'prestigious' car. No one would think twice about a GT-R unless they're a car enthusiast. Just like most people who see an Evo think its some stupid mexican kid that riced out his econobox lancer. So if you want to say I just want to look prestigious to other car enthusiasts then fine...but to say I just want to look prestigious to everyone and get girls because of my car... well then I"m clearly looking at the wrong car. I mean hell...a corvette would make me look more prestigious to the average american than a GT-R. Its just a nissan.

and no, i'm not trying to get the last word in...I don't see why you have such a problem with what cars I like and don't like.

we don't, you're missing the point. i could give a shit if you think the honda fit is the coolest car ever made. the point is you were claiming the gt-r to be tops in performance for cars ~$75k or less. it's simply not the case. it's fine that you just happen to like the gt-r the best, or you refuse to buy american, or whatever... just call a spade a spade.

^I never said it was the top performer for under $75k. I said it performed better than the options Noen posted. That being said, since I will never buy a vette I don't see the point in comparing it to one.

and in closing...a spade is a spade.

It's a hardtop convertible and it's been fitted for the Elise soft-top, hence your confusion (understandable, because you never see press shots of an Exige sans-scoop roof).

But you proved my point. I bought the Lotus because it's the most beautiful car I will probably ever own. I bought it because of the FEELING it gives me when I drive it, look at it, work on it. Fast isn't the point, it's a byproduct. Even at 190hp, it's more car than I can drive at the limit.

I look at my purchase very similarly to buying a piece of artwork. It makes me grin ear to ear everything I see it, people around me smile when they see it, and I am happy like a retard with a red ball when I'm driving it. Its not to get girls, or get attention, or to be the best. Its to make me happy.

Quote :

You are still trying to rationalize your decisions based on facts and figures, rather than just owning up to your real motivations. That's what pisses people off. Don't be fake, its fine to be self-indulgent, and shit I'll help you all I can (and most everyone else probably will too) if you just come clean with what you want and why.

The M3 is not really a prestigious car anymore, though it is a damn fine automobile. There are just too damn many on the road, and the price-point for the used market has fallen below that magical rice threshold.

And you are totally kidding yourself if you think a GT-R isn't a universal attention grabber. The thing looks like a japanese transformer, it's imposing as hell and very very easily recognized.

^the 'soft top' comment isn't referring to a full blown convertible....but i wouldn't really call it a t-top either...from my understanding of where the T in t-top comes from.

exactly. I wouldn't label it as prestige because you can feel the same way with a jalopy. Prestige is for a car that you just want a status kill in like a higher end Mercedes/BMW among other cars. Thats my point. Prestige is the wrong word here if you're trying to use it in the sense of impressing others.

I've seen a few exige's on the road in person but never without the hard top either...which is also why I assumed there was no other setup for an exige.

the elise/exige is a targa roof, no? t-top or t-bar roofs are like what 3rd/4th gen f-bodys had, older Z cars, c2/c3 vettes, etc. they rely on that center bar for structural integrity.

lots of hard targa topped cars have the option of a soft roof, whether factory or aftermarket. off hand some older 911's come to mind and c4 vettes.

^targa...thats what I was trying to think of...I knew it wasn't a t-top because as you say...that was mr2's etc...but I also didn't think it was classified as a true convertible either.

Yeah, all Lotus Elise/Exiges are targa tops. The 2-11 is a true convertible, nothing behind the driver but the roll cage

^He's got supposedly 80-90k in it, and it's got shit tons of upgrades. Considering he's asking basically regular price, I think it's a pretty good deal. There's also an 18 page project log on the car, he's got pretty good workmanship.

Almost shit myself when I looked in my rear view mirror this morning.

I never thought I'd see one of these on the road. At first glance I thought it was a M1, which about gave me a heart attack. Then after a few more stares (traffic was at a dead stop) I realized it was an 850, which let me live, but I still had to restrain from shitting myself.

Amazing car, it's still damn beautiful after all these years:

My cousin has a dark blue 850, its an awesome cruiser, but really not good at anything. It isn't fast by todays standards nor does it handle all that well.

That being said, I'd still love to have one for a DD
