I watched "Naked Ambition: And R-rated Look at an X-rated Industry" a while back and really enjoyed it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1404702/

"Noted Celebrity Photographer, Michael Grecco, sets out to capture the essence of the AVN Awards and Convention where the best in American Pornography is displayed, celebrated and honored."

Since it was the last page's post, I'll expound:

It's a cinematographic marvel that focuses on the depletion of the world's resources.

Triumph and Tragedy - The Ray Mancini story

It comes on ESPN Classic at 9:00 am tomorrow. I found this story interesting since the majority of the text in the NC State 1983 SI was inspired by this fight.

I just saw Sadermania and it was pretty good. It's about a Hulk Hogan superfan who ends up becoming close friends with his idol.

I just watched a docudrama called Zoo. It actually wasn't that good, but I read it won a lot of awards. It was about a case of bestiality in Washington state.

I really want to check this out, if for no other reason than some of my favorite bands are involved (as well as Hydra Head)

http://www.bloodsweatvinyl.com/Blood, Sweat + Vinyl
"This captivating documentary is the product of five years of obsessive filming of live concert footage, exclusive interviews, and historic documentation focusing on three fiercely independent music labels and their bands.

Featuring Neurosis, ISIS, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Pelican, Oxbow, Evangelista, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra, Cave In, and many others whose music and art found ideal homes in the artist-run record labels of Hydra Head, Neurot, and Constellation.

These labels combine hard-to-define, heavy music with a visual aesthetic that has enraptured worldwide fans, without the need for radio or corporate media outlets. They uphold the legacy of treating music as an art form, not as a product.

This film is an answer to those who question where the spirit of punk rock is today.

Over 20 bands and visual artists.
3 record labels.
1 philosophy."

At 10pm tonight they are going to show "Game of Honor" on Showtime. CBS spent time on the campus of the USMA and the campus of USNA in the lead up to the 2011 Army/Navy Game. They show what the players at those schools go through since they have to go to football practice, study, and do military training. The preview on CBS last month was pretty good.

don't know if these have been mentioned, but Which Way Home and De Nadie are excellent movies exploring the plight of Central American immigrants.

ESPN Classic has been showing a lot of documentaries about boxing over the last 24 hours because of MLK Day. I haven't watched any of it, but if you like boxing then you will like this...

It's about the Rumble in the Jungle vs George Foreman.

PBS is showing Steve James' new documentary The Interrupters tonight at 9, he directed Hoop Dreams as well as some other tremendous documentaries.
Quote :
"The Interrupters tells the moving and surprising stories of three Violence Interrupters who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they once employed. The film's main subjects work for an innovative organization, CeaseFire, which believes that the spread of violence mimics the spread of infectious diseases, and so the treatment should be similar: go after the most infected"

Harlan County, USA - it's about Eastover Mining Company which is owned by Duke Power. There's one scene in the movie where they're protesting in Durham. It's pretty coll.

^ seconded. It's amazing that they're even able to tell that story through so much real footage. It's extremely engaging, very well done, and an amazing story. You don't have to like or know anything about racing to enjoy it (I don't know much about racing nor do I watch/follow any form of racing).

30 for 30 starts back tomorrow

if you are a sports fan, they are pretty much must watch

if not, you will probably still enjoy 5 out of 8 (this arbitrary made-up statistic brought to you by rwoody)

first one is by the same guys who did Cocaine Cowboys about how athletes go broke.

Just sayin'.

He's a fellow UM alumnus and I've heard some stories.

Like when he stormed out of a screening of the U on campus for no reason.

I'll second Dear Zachary. But prepared to potentially cry. That shit will reach deep into your soul and crush it with that gi joe, kung fu grip. And don't read about it on wikipedia or anything first. Just read the description on netflix and go from there.
