uh do i seriously have to reinstall the harddrive? i've done this plenty of times on desktops, was just checking to see how hard it was on my laptop model. what does the hard drive have to do with upgrading ram?

also how do i know what speed of ram to upgrade to? i mean its DDR2 but i can't figure out any more than that. how important is that?

i think it's suggesting you should slide the HDD out before upgrading the RAM, then "reinstall" it, meaning just slide it back in. it doesn't have anything to do with reinstalling the OS or anything.

this is what you need for an Inspiron 1501 - http://crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Inspiron%201501
get DDR2-5300
