Looks really good. First episode this Sunday March 16th.

Band of Brothers was absolutely amazing (own it on DVD) and I hope this miniseries is just as good.

they were filmin this when i was at colonial williamsburg last year...the late 1700s/early 1800s is my favorite time period in history so i have no doubt it'll be interesting to me. i hope it has the same high production value as band of brothers.

yeah...I love this period in history. I have high hopes for this miniseries based on the quality of Band of Brothers and that Paul Giamatti plays John Adams.

The book it was based on (David McCullough's bio of Adams) was excellent. I don't have HBO but I may have to check this out on DVD if the series holds up as good...

I refuse to believe that he can be better represented than how he was in 1776.

I thought it was excellent! The acting was superb and I was really drawn into the story. I didn't want it to end and would have probably watched the series in its entirety had they shown it last night.

I too thought it was well done.

The problem with HBO series is they tend to jump ahead YEARS without warning, so it takes awhile to catch the clues. Last night, she wasnt preg, then preg, then a 3 year old.

Guitarguy, it will be on hbo indemand, and its free if you have it.

Also, did anyone else spot

^yeah i totally caught the Crispus Attucks plug. I even got on chit chat last night thinking someone would have made a thread about it. I lolled inside.

This series will be jumping ahead, I believe covering almost 50 years during the 7 parts.

I definitely think paul giamatti is excellent. I think that this character will show a lot of his range as an actor b/c I know Adams loses a lot of popularity throughout his political career and we may see him become a character we love, hate, then love all over again before its all said and done.

Oh, and was I the only one who though Rutledge was a little bitch?

just finished watching the first 2 episodes

very very well done

I didn't realize that John Adams did so much for the country. I learned a lot about people like George Washington, Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson, etc. in high school history but I don't think enough was said about John Adams.

I thought the producers did an interesting job of making him an antagonist. First the fact that his outfit was in purple a color often associated with regality.

They made him young and fruity looking. The thing is these men were committing treason by declaring independance. They had a lot to lose. In actuality Joseph Galloway is the main antagonist he wanted no part of the Declaration of Independance and remained loyal to the crown and even led troops to overtake Philadelphia.

^^oh i agree, they did an excellent representation of him. And hindsight is definitely 20/20, i could definitely agree with his stance for the south during that period

Quote :
"Along with his brother John, Rutledge represented South Carolina in the Continental Congress. Although a firm supporter of colonial rights, he was initially reluctant to support independence from Great Britain, hoping instead for reconciliation with the mother country. Like other Southern planters, Rutledge did not want the American Revolution to change the basic social structure of the South. He worked to have African Americans expelled from the Continental Army, and led the successful effort to have wording removed from the Declaration of Independence that condemned slavery and the slave trade. Nevertheless, he signed the Declaration for the sake of unanimity, and at age 26 was the youngest to sign."

^I doubt we'll get too much play in the Constitutional Convention. John Adams wasn't even at the convention, he was in Europe during the drafting of the Constitution

^ there really wasn't a lot to it. John Adams arrives on the scene after it happens and just looks at some of the wounded/dead. They don't actually show it happening

It's an additional charge but it's not much. Maybe $15/month or so. I have DVR so to me it's not worth it. I still have both episodes recorded and set to record the rest of the series. It works the same way as HBO on Demand except I can use it for every channel.

well perhaps you should better explain yourself

you stated that you could understand his argument, then you quoted that his argument was with people trying to get rid of slavery

what am i missing?

i only quoted the summary of his notable achievements, not an arguement that i agreed with. what i mean that i could agree with him on was this

Quote :
"Although a firm supporter of colonial rights, he was initially reluctant to support independence from Great Britain, hoping instead for reconciliation with the mother country. "

the south had a good thing going (excluding slavery). They had wealth and a growing economy (yes i know mainly b/c of slavery). I could see where he and those he represented wouldn't want to make any rash decisions. I am not approving of slavery, and thus you misunderstood. i think we can move on now. i'm stoked for part III
