I've always pictured everybody at Sandhurst getting ready to go to Iraq, and then at the last minute saying "Uhhhh, Aryeh, we're going to need you to stay here to...uh...do TV commentary. Later."

Pretty sure he's a civilian. I dunno, I'm not familiar with British Army grooming standards. That and Sandhurst is their West Point, which has civilian proffessors.
