For the record, Steve Lavin is smarter than Sidney Lowe.

He took the most decorated team in history into the gutter. NC State fans thought he would be a better choice than Sidney Lowe.

Reflect on that for a minute...

1996-97 Steve Lavin 24-8 15-3 1 NCAA Elite Eight
1997-98 Steve Lavin 24-9 12-6 3 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
1998-99 Steve Lavin 22-9 12-6 3 NCAA Round of 64
1999-2000 Steve Lavin 21-12 10-8 4 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2000-01 Steve Lavin 23-9 14-4 3 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2001-02 Steve Lavin 21-12 11-8 6 NCAA Sweet Sixteen
2002-03 Steve Lavin 10-19 7-13 6

02/03 was bad, and that's nothing special by ucla standards, but an elite eight and four sweet sixteens in 7 seasons isn't exactly the 'gutter'.

^^ Yeah. I never got why people thought he would make a good coach after his performance at UCLA. Of course he was 4th on our list. God how I wish I didn't know who was on our list before Lowe. Stupid fucking Lee Fowler.

^ When you're coaching at the West Coast equivalent of UNC, it is.

In case you have all forgotten, Calimari turned down State's offer because "expectations were too high" given the competition in the ACC. He was also scared of trying to recruit to a school with any type of academic standards.

You dont want that shifty piece of shit. Give Lowe at least one more season, then judge the job he's done and take your chances on an up-and-coming mid-major coach.

Any way we can convince Few from Gonzaga to come?

I mean, if we're going to recruit the whites (turd, horner, wood), at least he gets ones with talent.

simonn, more to it than records......

""As reported by Bay Area blogger Geoff Lepper of the Contra Costa Times, former UCLA point guard Baron Davis looked into the rafters at Pauley Pavilion last Friday during the Golden State Warriors' morning shoot-around and said, "We should have a banner up there: the only team to make the tournament without a coach." . . ."

"Steve Lavin has decided not to coach at North Carolina State and will remain an analyst with ESPN and ABC Sports.

Lavin discussed the job with Wolfpack athletic director Lee Fowler for more than a week. He also discussed his broadcasting future with executives at ESPN.

Ultimately, he decided to stay with TV.

Lavin formerly coached at UCLA from 1996-2003. He has spent the last three seasons in broacasting at ESPN and ABC Sports. "

Well, when you consider 2 Final fours in the last 2 years and a #1 seed this year, yep, I say he pretty much took UCLA into the gutter.

there's a difference between 'bad for ucla' and 'the gutter'.

by no one's definition should the elite eight be 'the gutter'.

Dude, that was the first year, 2 years removed from an NC. After this year's draft, Howland will have sent AT LEAST his 6th player that HE RECRUITED to the draft in FOUR years (Farmar, Hollins, Afflalo are already in).

Love (top 3 center), Westbrook and Collison (both top 5 PG's ) will be gone, but they have the top class for 2008 already.

10-19 is the fucking gutter and Lavin drove them right down into it. Three PAC-10 championships in four years under Howland.

Do a little research on Lavin and what he really did to that program. Then remind yourself that Lee Fowler was in negotiations with him for one week and made him an offer.

Anyone can feel free to copy and paste some of these gems in a Lee Fowler thread (The same Lee Fowler who was wooing the below coach).....

Since World War II ended, UCLA has lost 12 games by more than 28 points. Nine of those defeats have come with Steve Lavin as head coach:

Jan. 9, 1997 at Stanford 48** Steve Lavin
Nov. 27, 1997 N. Carolina 41 Steve Lavin
Feb. 18, 1989 at Arizona 38 Jim Harrick
Nov. 24, 1985 at N. Carolina 37 Walt Hazzard
Feb. 22, 1998 at Duke 36 Steve Lavin
Feb. 13, 2003 at Arizona 36 Steve Lavin
Jan. 18, 2003 Arizona 35* Steve Lavin
Dec. 26, 1951 at Kentucky 31 John Wooden
March 1, 2003 at Oregon 31 Steve Lavin
Feb. 17, 2000 at Arizona St. 29 Steve Lavin
Feb. 1, 2001 at California 29 Steve Lavin
Jan. 31, 2002 at Oregon 29 Steve Lavin

* UCLA's worst loss ever at Pauley Pavilion (87-52)
** UCLA's worst loss ever (109-61) at Great Alaska Shootout

***Two of their worst losses ever were vs. Duke and UNC

***Six McDonald's All-Americans, 3 #1 recruiting classes, 7 current NBA players. His #1 recruiting class of 2001 finished 10-19, the worst record for any UCLA team in 50 years and their only losing season since 1948

anyone that would want that POS John Calipari to coach our team needs to find someone one else to pull for.

anyone wanting Sid fired after this season needs to find another team pull for. i swear i hate our fans.

If there is one coach on par for sliminess with Calipari, it is Tim Floyd. I don't want either of those sketchy fuckers near our program.

On the other hand, had we fired Sendek in 2001 when the writing was on the wall, we could have bagged Rick Barnes.
