GTFO moonbat!

Acutally, you're correct about the Ulliean pipes. However, they are not the "traditional" Highland bagpipes and certainly not the ones the guy wearing a 42nd Highlanders kilt and horsehair sporran was playing.

The Uillean pipes, for the unitiated, are actually played using all ten fingers as well as your wrists to actuate valves on the instrument. Air is stored in a bag, but provided by squeezing a bellows instead of blowing directly into the instrument. They are extremely difficult to master but put out a much more soothing tone than the shrill skirl of the Phìob Mhòr.

Ironically, for all its Scottish nationalism, you don't here the Highland pipes once in Braveheart.

As far as the kilt, variations of plaid wraps were used by all celts, but the kilt itself is an invention of Scottish origin.

That's because William Wallace was from the lowlands and not the highlands.

that must be it, they seemed pretty concerned with historical accuracy in that film.

isn't that sad? when TSB threads accidentally find their way into CC, they're usually better than the stuff that goes on here.

Civil? Longshanks begs to differ, brigands. But he offers land and title for your allegiance to England--or death. It's just as good.

Scottish or not, I <3 me some bagpipes and men in kilts.

I also speak for mcfluffle on this matter, although maybe not on this next point: I sense a niche market here.
