1) how long should it take for an LEO to check for warrants on you? More like ~5 minutes, or ~20? 2) can state troopers highway patrol pull you on roads that aren't highways? 3) can city of raleigh* cops pull you outside of raleigh/how is 'outside of raleigh' determined *insert municipality here

hp can pull you in your driveway if they want to
shouldnt take long for them to run your records
the city limits lines are fuzzy but if they start to pursue you within city limits they are allowed to stay in pursuit of you if you leave city limits 3/19/2008 10:42:42 PM |

I just wonder because I live in unincorporated wake co, and a good part of my commute is also that...but, there's always a shitton of RPD, garner cops, HP, and at the end of hammond/person, state capitol cops. 3/19/2008 10:44:43 PM |

1) depends on if the computer is up and running or if not how backlogged the DCI terminal is at dispatch 2) yeah they can pull you anywhere they please 3) yes, most have a memorandum of agreement in place for responding into other jurisdictions. In that particular area you are in and out of Garner, Raleigh and the county. State Capital Police are responsible for ALL state owned properties and facilities, of which there are some down in that area.
These are in addition to the above mentioned items. There is also the Wake Tech Public Safety facility on Chaponoake Rd right off of Hammond.
oh yeah and the hat thing is BS... but always worth a chuckle

Is it an unusual # of police* patroling, or is it more like they live near you and are going to work themselves?

urban legend...but please try it...the laughs are good.
#2) yes, and you'd be amazed at how many roads you think of as city streets are actually state highways.
#3) I believe RPD can charge up to 2 miles outside the city line. There's a statute somewhere dealing with that issue. And if they stop you more than 2 miles outside, they'll just call in WCSD to write the ticket if necissary.3/21/2008 8:10:57 AM |

it's a mile, but it's not set in stone...
highway patrol can arrest you anywhere in the state at any time--i.e. out-of-uniform 3/21/2008 9:15:13 AM |

I'm aware of that, and note these things. Driving around for delivery, I end up looking at google maps and nothing lots of things, this among them.

Here, down in Garner, it's mostly them to and fro the various facilities on Hammond. Maybe I'm just more attuned to their presence, and so notice cops more often than my friends do, but even if I make a trip to my parents' place (near campus), or to, say North Hills...3pm or 3am, I pretty much always spot an LEO of some sort, and very often end up riding near one in traffic.
Since I don't have anything resembling a set route or commute or schedule, it's not a case of that cop three cars up leaving our subdivision and going to work]3/21/2008 9:49:21 AM |
