there was something on the news about a guy who was drinking and driving and then got into a wreck that killed people. they interviewed "a relative" and she said - "its terrible that this guy was drinking on the job, and decided that drinking was more important than getting home safely"
2 questions:
1) why is it always the drunk person's fault? i've seen plenty of sober people drive like shit. especially old people. and there was an old person involved in the accident
2) does anyone else think the guy really decided that drinking was more important than getting home safely? isnt that like a suicide attempt if so? i'd think that if he really thought all that out, then he should be ruled insane and unable to stand trial
ps i have no agenda, i dont drink and i dont think drunk driving is very smart. i am just wondering] 3/24/2008 6:11:29 AM |

1.) Drinking and then driving is optional. Aging is not (where as recognizing you're too old to drive properly is). It's also a helluva lot easier to blame the first driver than the second, seeing as how a vice is involved.
2.) When drunk, people don't think, or decide that "drinking was more important than getting home safely" - they are impulsive and confident that they can make the trip safely. Doesn't matter if they've had a fifth.
Lastly, we're only looking at a relative's point of view. Of course she'd be upset and want to blame someone. It's a knee-jerk reaction.

yeah i guess. i just dont get why its always the drunk's fault. i almost got into a wreck the other day with an old man while i coming into the harris teeter parking lot. he was going straight and i was going left into the same place. i had the right of way and was going down the road and he just creeped across the road right in front of me.
i was taking my time, no big hurry... so i didnt even get upset or honk or anything. i hit the brakes and saw it was an old man and old lady. and since i didnt honk, they never even saw me. they had no clue how close they came to getting hit.
might as well have been drunk, he was totally oblivious.
btw i also dislike angry drivers 3/24/2008 6:35:20 AM |

1) It's always the person's fault who blows over .08, no matter what because they can't legally be on the road. The real issue is the bs .08 number, I've seen a lot of people pass all the tests, but then blow over.
2) I think this depends on what he actually blew, if he had 3-4 beers and then got into a wreck I would say no he didn't choose drinking over getting home safely. However, I know a lot of people who drink a fuckload and just assume they won't get in a wreck or in trouble becuase 99.74% of the time they got home safely in the past (I would say in that case yes they do chose drinking rather then getting home safely).

^^Heheh, reminds me of the time we were headed down a road in Kansas and came up on a crossroads. It was barren except for the two intersecting ribbons of pavement, and a blinking yellow for us, blinking red for them. Their car just gently rolled out right in front of us, and my dad did a jack-rabbit right-left veer, clear around the car. We popped back in lane as smooth as can be, and when I looked over my shoulder at the car, they had stopped clear in the intersection to gape at us.

I have another issue for yall.
Why can a girl be too drunk to be expected to make a good choice weather or not to sleep with someone but cannot be to drunk to be expected to make a good choice weather or not to drive?
you'd think these two things would need to have some consistency between them... either drunks can make decisions they can be held accountable for or they cannot... make up your mind. 3/24/2008 7:11:28 AM |

Maybe we should start an awareness campaign for that. Need a catchy acronym, Wolfwebbers Against Drunk Girls Fucking doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. 3/24/2008 7:15:22 AM |

^ not to mention that situation becomes a her word versus his situation (the girl files charges), being drunk is never measured and is after the fact. With driving the state sanctions a random number as meeting the requirement for being drunk. 3/24/2008 7:23:36 AM |

b/c 99.99% of the time it's the drunk that causes the wreck/accident b/c they are inebriated3/24/2008 9:19:45 AM |

b/c a drunk person has a slower reaction time than a sober person and would have probably avoided the wreck.
thats why its always fun to get in accidents with drunk people, cuz its always their fault.
!! if you've got a dent on your bumper, just find someone who is drunk and hit them. problem solved. 3/24/2008 9:22:13 AM |

I have been in MULTIPLE instances where there is a female behind the wheel and I felt more in danger than playing russian roulette with ex-vietcong.
There have been multiple instances where I have had them pull over because it was that bad, I'm talking about in girl world where when fergalicious hits the radio the blindspot apparently no longer exists.
So yes, I would say there are many drivers on the road who operate a vehicle at a level poorer than anyone over .08 3/24/2008 9:54:53 AM |

I agree 100%. The number of elderly who should NOT be on the road is simply overwhelming.. If they can drive without being able to see and with reaction times measured in the seconds at best I should be able to drive after drinking two beers.
Everybody remember the old guy who hit a pedestrian and had the dude stuck on the car for like 5 miles? 3/24/2008 9:57:56 AM |
