We found a camera while on vacation. In order to try and find the owners we had the film developed, and kind of lucked out. It had easter pictures of a family outside looking for eggs, and their full license plate is in the back ground. We would really like to return the camera to the rightful owners. Does anyone know how I can find the owner tied to a specific California license plate number?

Because where else was I supposed to post? Also I need help from "1337" hackers.

I checked the DMV web site with no luck, and I figured they would not give out this information if I called.

No you don't, you need a phone.

Why don't you actually call and find out. I'm not saying they'll give you a name and an address, but there's no point in not calling.

you probably wont be able to find out this information without access to some pretty sensitive systems.

it also appears there are some shady websites offering the information...but i wouldn't trust them that much or the legality of that type of information

No state will give that out. If you have a contact at a police department they might help, although a lot of departments prohibit license plate searches without a good reason. Failing that you'd have to cough up for an online private investigation service. I think this can cost anywhere from $25 to $100. Maybe the family would reimburse you as a reward for returning the film.

Hahahaha.. you guys are all fucking retards.

Tingers: call any Sheriff's office or City police office in California. Tell them the situation, give them the plate number and your information. They will contact the family and give them your information to get the camera back. No cost to you, it should only take a few minutes.

^that actually worked. I tried is on the 25th and the camera was returned. Honestly I half expected a fuck off attitude from them but the sheriff's office was very nice.
