Would comprehensive insurance cover my car if it were to have rolled down my driveway and into a tree with nobody in the car. I drive a stickshift and it was parked in my carport, which is almost perfectly flat, and i guess i forgot to pull the parking brake and it was in nuetral. I didnt notice when i got out because it must have been moving so slow that it seemed like I had the break on. I even looked outside about 5 minutes after being inside and it was still in the carport. Anyways, it must have been centimetering itself backwords and finally hit a point that got a little steeper and ended up rolling down the driveway and into a tree. Estimate says $1500 to fix would comprehensive pay this/would it even be worth it to file comprehensive for something this cheap? My plan now is to just get some douchebag who is riding my ass to rear end me and let his/her insurance pay to fix it as it is simply cosmetic damage.

btw this happend about 9 months ago and i am just wondering about it as i am tired of my brand new car having a dented bumper and trunk

wait, who's the douchebag?

and who was dumb enough to post his plans for insurance fraud (and probably some other criminal offenses, traffic and otherwise) on the internet?

its not like its hard to slam on the brakes and have someone hit you so if i was going to do that i would have done it already. Im just waiting for some dumbass to not be paying attention and rearend me. there are quite a few woman drivers on the road so i dont think i will have to wait too terribly long

skipping over the waiting for someone to rear end you......they probably would cover it....but more than likely your deductable is more then $1,500 so it wouldnt matter

[Edited on March 25, 2008 at 2:26 PM. Reason : who in the fuck has a deductible over $1500??? the highest i could get was $1000,most ppl have lower]

i would not have a deductible if someone's liability was paying for it. I dont really care though i can make 1500 pretty quickly by working some overtime shifts. My real question i guess is does comprehensive cover this type of accident since it is not a moving violation? Probably not as it was my fault even though i wasnt in the car. And if comprehensive did cover it it probably wouldnt even be worth claiming it since the premium would go up enough to cancel out the money the insurance would be paying out. I need to just cut my loses and get it fixed myself

the insurance company always gets their money back

for something this small i'd just say f it and either pay for it or leave it how it is and wait for something else to happen.

my deductable is $2,000.......

but either way, you are right, the insurance company gets their money back in the end. you would be better off just paying for it yourself since its so small

oh, progressive wouldn't let me have a deduct. over $1000 when I signed up with them--although that has been a few years so the standard might have changed

comprehensive will not cover this accident even if you weren't in the car (unless it was the result of vandalism)

this would be covered under collision

however, you would've needed to notify your insurance company and file a notice of claim within a reasonable amount of time after the accident (~30 days)

even still, it would probably not be worth claiming since you probably have a deductable of $250 or $500 which means you only stand to collect around $1000, which with your premium increase you're looking at breaking even at best
