-did i get your attention?
ok so i do side contracting work for a networking company, today they said bring a ladder, so i did, they forgot to tell me i need a 40 Foot ladder, to climb on the roof of a 3 story appartment building.
so we get the ladder and we dont even know how to extend it, after 20 minutes of struggling with it we secure it to the corner of the roof, i volunteer cause im the leader, i get up 1/4 of the way and stop, they tell me to come back down and that they'll cancel it, but i said no and kept going. 1/2 way and i stop again, it feel like im 1 mile up, i start to think about dying and my family. they start to tell me to give up and come down but i tried to keep my pride and determined to take a few more steps of courage. I go a few more steps and im 3/4 of the way there. this is where the men get seperated from the boys. At this point the risk of dying is very significant, if i take anymore steps i would have to climb the roof if i got in trouble so i say "jesus" and went forward, i felt like i was not even in my body. i got to the roof i hurriedly put my hands on it and pushed off the ladder and it began to slide off, luckily my body was on the roof but it was steeply inclined. i quickly crawled to the top of the roof and layed on my back as my co-workers cheered on the ground.
chapter 2 will be another day 3/26/2008 4:25:04 PM |

Would your insurance have covered it if you fell of the roof or off of the ladder near the roof? (Serious question). I know some work policies you have to be insured for different heights, stories, etc. 3/26/2008 4:28:20 PM |

pussy, you should try doing that with 30 lbs of tools hanging on you, an air hose and 2 20# bundles of shingles, 20-30 times in a day 3/26/2008 4:43:26 PM |

does anyone know what the going rate is per hour for risking your life on top of a roof.
now this company is trying to get me to reduce my per hour rate cause i was "ineffective" and "out of my comfort zone"
wtf, i only charged them $75/hr, thats cheeap 3/28/2008 5:04:26 PM |
jackleg All American 170957 Posts user info edit post |
75 an hour is more than fair. especially considering the hazard. they're a bunch of jewfucks for implying that you couldnt do your best work because you were scared on the way up the ladder
but one question, how do they know you were out of your element? i guess you made a big deal about the fear? 3/28/2008 5:07:49 PM |

i was helping my uncle hang a tire swing, we had to use a 40 ft ladder. he went up the ladder, i offered, but the dang thing looked crazy. it was secure. the only real way of him falling would of have to been backwards.
ever since my snowboarding accident im not so happy with heights. everytime im on a ladder, or high up i just keep thinkin... "ima break my leg" 3/28/2008 5:09:32 PM |

one of their techs was there, he refused to do it thats why i was called, but the whole me stopping a bunch of times and shaking kinda of tipped him off also i used a rope to get down along with the ladder,
but i just went back out today, they had a veteran guys, he seems like 20 years old, but he just walked up there like he was walking on the sidewalk, we were just like so yeah, now i feel like a little girl but still its scary 3/28/2008 5:10:54 PM |

Yeah, you're better off to stay relaxed and just do it. All that shaking isn't good for you. But I feel you. I'll climb scaffolding like a goat, used to work 4 stories up every day, but I fucking hate steep pitched roofs. 3/28/2008 6:45:29 PM |

yeah back then you had to do shit like that or starve along with your family
i was out at a prison camp in alamance county today. anyways, we had access because we are providing them with radical solutions. no idea why this place was still in use. if anyone knows the graham area, its on a place called prison camp road. HA HA
but i was standing outside this building today, out on the old basketball court... kinda looking around at all the old shit there, and thinking about how it was all hand built. and then i started thinking about how much of a pussy i was because i make my money sitting down. 3/28/2008 6:57:44 PM |

So I get to hear about it all the time.
