Quote : | "Test has airport police sweating 11 officers failed a fitness evaluation in December. They'll try again in June. Get fit or you might get fired. That's what Raleigh-Durham International Airport administrators are telling 11 airport police officers who have fallen short of new RDU standards for sit-ups, pushups and fleetness of foot. The officers, including Police Chief Donna E. Waters, flunked a fitness test in December. They'll be tested again after June 1.
..........
The test requires at least 22 sit-ups in a minute, 12 pushups without a time limit, a 300-meter run in 77 seconds or less, and a 1.5-mile run in 16 minutes 31 seconds or less. Not "the most difficult test in the world," Waters said, but "a challenge for somebody who's not in shape."" |
22 sit-ups, 12 push-ups, not EVEN a one-lap sprint, and, a mile and a half at an ELEVEN MINUTE MILE PACE. My asthmatic friend in high school could do that. (She was in JROTC.) Come on, sure you're airport cops, but you're still COPS. Further proof that airport security is a joke.3/28/2008 2:46:10 AM |

oh yeah
that's the thing--i'm not sure which part they couldn't pass. it would all be so easy that your average bedridden little old lady should be able to do it. maybe the 300m run?????3/28/2008 9:51:49 AM |

Everyone on the internets is 6'5" and 300 lbs of pure muscle.
It's a well-known fact.
Btw, 5.45 mph would be an extremely fast walk. 3 mph is the classic walking speed. 3/28/2008 10:58:05 AM |

i figure someone on the internet who is 5'10" and 140 lbs could pass those tests easily] 3/28/2008 11:00:00 AM |

I'm still a little amused by how far y'all are talking this.
OMF n00bz!!1 I could past that test while drunk, stoned, starving, and bleeding out from multiple gunshot wounds to the face!!1
(It's also funny that cops have a fitness test I could probably pass.) 3/28/2008 11:06:46 AM |

with the exception of gunshots to the face, i think i could pass that test drunk stoned or starving
its really not that bad...for the 1.5 mile you could literally jog half of it and speed walk the other half and easily break the time 3/28/2008 11:11:10 AM |
GoldenViper All American 16056 Posts user info edit post |
^ Starvation can really sap one's strength.
Jogging is commonly cited as 6 mph. To manage 5.45 mph, you'd have to jog at 6 mph most of the way. If you jogged a bit faster, that probably would work. 3/28/2008 11:14:19 AM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148445 Posts user info edit post |
well maybe run half of it (instead of jog) and walk half of it
and everybody is different but to me that test is easy...now i used to run track and i still jog to stay in shape and i do more pushups than that every morning, but i'd hope most people could pass this test] 3/28/2008 11:19:28 AM |

My pushups have gone to shit in the last few years, but I can still do a dozen fairly easily.
I'd have to struggle for 22 sit-ups, but I could manage it.
I don't know about the 1.5 run. I bet I could. I recently ran 5.5 miles in a bit over an hour. In the rain. It almost killed me. I was sore for days after. I think I ran a mile in around 8 minutes for a test, though that was when I lost track of laps and possibly ran over a mile.
I have no idea at all about the 300-meter sprint. An average of 3.9 m/s sounds fairly slow. 3/28/2008 11:31:13 AM |

test is a joke. any man or woman worth a shit can pass it no problem under almost any circumstance (hungry, tired, smoking, drunk, hung over, sexually frustrated, etc...)

^ Unlikely. Between drugs and exoskeletons, I have a feeling future military standards will be well beyond current ones.
Sooner or later, both genetic advantage and conditioning will become less important. If you want to be stronger and faster, you'll simply have to pay for it. 3/28/2008 3:14:57 PM |
