Latest stable release:
2.0.0.13
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

Latest beta release:
3.0b5
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

Beta 5 includes:
Quote :
"* Integration with Windows: Firefox now has improved Windows icons, and uses native user interface widgets in the browser and in web forms.
* Integration with the Mac: the new Firefox theme makes toolbars, icons, and other user interface elements look like a native OS X application. Firefox also uses OS X widgets and supports Growl for notifications of completed downloads and available updates. A combined back and forward control make it even easier to move between web pages.
* Integration with Linux: Firefox's default icons, buttons, and menu styles now use the native GTK theme.
* Places Organizer: view, organize and search through all of your bookmarks, tags, and browsing history with multiple views and smart folders to store your frequent searches. Create and restore full backups whenever you want.
* Speed: improvements to our JavaScript engine as well as profile guided optimizations have resulted in continued improvements in performance. Compared to Firefox 2, web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office run twice as fast in Firefox 3 Beta 5, and the popular SunSpider test from Apple shows improvements over previous releases."

Is there a way via script or addon/extension to save let's say 5 sites that all require login. Have a one click/trigger/macro to open them all and login? Or at least open them all at once in different tabs ?

save all the pages in a bookmark folder then right click the folder and select Open All in Tabs

[Edited on April 9, 2008 at 12:49 AM. Reason : or middle click on the folder]

Is there anything out there that can stop apps, hacks, or IE for that matter taking over my homepage?

^In Windows? Not generally since an app has the ability to call IE directly when trying to open a link. Apps are not required to check with the OS and determine what your setting is.

this shit is breaking all sorts of divs on a new website I'm making, for no reason at all. something as simple as a link displays as a link, but doesn't actually let you click and link. IE works fine. I mean damn, it's <div id="back"><a href="questions.html">Back to Questions</a></div> but NOOOOOO, you just won't let it work properly.

ok, just venting. I'll see wtf I can do to fix this.

Wait, so what's your CSS look like for the id "back"?

first, didn't have an ID at all. Now that I do, I added the css entry and it's width 100% top 10px. that's it. I didn't have anything there at first because there didn't need to be one. the id="back" and the new css were simply to try and fix things. The site passes validation tests and browser compatibility tests, but yet.... Actually, the other links on the page work just fine, but this div is what's causing the problem.

Trying to access the site now, but I haven't loaded it from home in a while so I have to update my stuff.

you must be doing something crazy wrong because every site i've worked on loads perfectly fine in FF3. If it works in 2 it will work 'better' in 3 from what i've seen.

^Heh ... well if you want entertaining, here's an example of a site that looks correct in FF2 and breaks in FF3 ... the irony of which department the site belongs to made me chuckle.

that's the crazy thing, though. nothing seems out of the ordinary.

z-index pwnt even though the divs didn't overlap, raising the z-index of "back" fixed it.

Hmm I think I confused you. I don't really care what homepage IE has, but it seems to affect Firefox too.

This is the homepage I want to use in Firefox,

http://en-US.start2.mozilla.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

However it seems like MSN.com is always taking over the field, Tools => Options => Startup in Firefox.

I know that it's still beta, but I am having a lot more crashes in beta 5 than 4. This is my normal browser starting routine:

1. Start FF
2. Go to Gmail (homepage is FF start)
3. Open tab to go somewhere else

And since beta 5, it has crashed at step 3 EVERY TIME. Then I'll restart, restore previous session, and it will work fine.

no crashes on beta 4, but i've already submitted two bugs on beta 5 crashing with the silverlight 2.0 beta installed (more or less a silverlight issue, not a firefox issue, to be fixed before silverlight 2.0 launches this summer)

but then again i don't know if its something wrong with my profile or an actual bug.

got the prompt to download/install RC1. A few visual changes that I've noticed right off the bat. For example the 'remember password' prompt box at the top of the browser looks completely different now.

Also the auto completer font is now blue.

Hey guys......
On my MAC I have Firefox 1.5.0.3 and I see that there is already version 3 betas...yet when I check for a software update, I don't get shit..... Do I just dl the latest 2x release and have it replace my current version? Am I gonna lose my bookmarks etc???? Why don't they have a simple 'update version' option????

1.5? you are way out of date.
Automatic upgrade notifications weren't added until FF2, so unless you manually upgrade, you will be stuck on 1.5 forever.

go here and download FF 3 RC1 and replace the existing FireFox package. all your preferences and bookmarks will be saved because they are stored in a different location on your Mac
After installing FF3 RC1, you will get automatic upgrades from now on

^^you can have BOTH running at the same time. I would recommend downloading FF 2 first...install that, rename it FF2. then download and install FF3 and rename it FF3 in your applications folder. this way you can go back to FF2 if you have problems with 3. I've run into several sites that don't play nice with FF3.

Facebook and some of the apps don't play nice with FF, top friends being the first one to come to mind.

other sites - there are also a few others i can't remember the names that are heavy in AJAX that did not work at all. Had to relaunch in FF2 to be able to use it.

and it's the rc that's causing problems? because those look okay on my end

i probably don't have the apps you have, but i can believe third-party stuff might be screwy...i haven't had any problems with ajax-heavy sites (including my own, which is pretty heavy)

thats what it was! Mint.com just remembered. I couldn't get a lot of things to work in mint.com like adding accounts. had to use Safari 3 and FF2.

I have not tired said sites since RC1 install this weekend...but none of the beta updates fixed the problems. So for all I know it may have fixed the problem.

MOTHER FUCKING FUCK FUCK

So I'm attempting to upgrade to 2x...and the only way to do it, because I can't do the 'automatic updates' is by downloading 2x from the mozilla site. Fine..done...then I open the dmg and try dragging the motherfucking firefox icon into my Applications folder...at which time it informs that another version already exists and do I want to overwrite it...which I say YES....and THEN it tells me that I don't have sufficient permissions to do this and that I should log in as the admin.....only thing is...I AM LOGGED IN AS THE FUCKING ADMIN

delete the old FF program first. It shouldn't ask you to log in as admin, it should just ask you for the admin password

no, all your preferences and bookmarks and such are stored elsewhere, something like ~/Library/Application Support/FireFox

if you just delete /Applications/FireFox you won't lose any of your personalizations. All that package contains is the actual FireFox program itself

if it makes you feel better, though, there are couple things you can do
1) before deleting anything, export your bookmarks to an HTML file, just as a backup
2) instead of deleting FireFox, just move it to another folder, like your desktop, and rename it "FireFox 1.5" or something. Then download FF3 and move that one to your Applications folder. Then you will have two versions of FF, and once you confirm that FF3 is running and you haven't lost anything, delete the old FireFox 1.5 program
