Eastern Conference

1. Montreal Canadiens
8. Boston Bruins

2. Pittsburgh Penguins
7. Ottawa Senators

3. Washington Capitals
6. Philadelphia Flyers

4. New Jersey Devils

Western Conference

8. Nashville Predators

2. San Jose Sharks
7. Calgary Flames

3. Minnesota Wild
6. Colorado Avalanche

4. Anaheim Ducks
5. Dallas Stars

Crosby and Ovechkin both in? Most of the major US markets represented? 5 of 8 series are divisional rivals? Also, the 03 Wild/Avs series was one of the greatest I've ever watched. This could be an amazing playoff (with one obvious exception of course).

vulcan fails, i have posted television info in first post

one thing of note: having Versus in the playoffs is the only advantage to them over ESPN
although i guess if they were both doing it they would get them all split up and what not

If ESPN had the contract we would get to see like 5 games a week. I love VS. The league needs the exposure of ESPN, but fans need a network that will put the league first like VS. Obviously, as you said, a joint contract between the two (a la the NBA with ESPN and TNT) would be ideal.

Washington is going all the way

I'm having a hard time getting tickets to the damn playoff games though... I'm not paying $400 for 2 upper level seats. That's fucking ridiculous. They're sold out, and the face value of the tickets are aroung $50 each for those upper level seats

I found someone on craigslist willing to sell me 4 tickets in upper level corner for $400

I dunno

NEW YORK – A season of suspenseful races and outstanding performances on the ice was accompanied by historic levels of attendance at National Hockey League arenas in 2007-08. Total attendance of 21,236,255 and the per-game average of 17,265 set records in each category and marked the third consecutive season of growth.

"Our fans have outdone themselves, and everyone at the National Hockey League is extremely appreciative,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “This unprecedented support is only the latest affirmation that our fans are the best fans anywhere.”

NHL teams played to 93.6% of capacity over the 1,230 games in outdoing the 2006-07 season figures of 20,861,787 and 16,961 per-game, or 91.7% of capacity. In 2005-06, the figures were 20,854,169 and 16,955. NHL games have attracted 20 million or more in each of the past seven seasons.

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/2008/04/07/capitals-make-playoffs-history/

Quote :
"Well, how do you like that? After 81 games—which included an early-season meltdown followed by an improbable comeback—the Washington Capitals found themselves in a win-and-you’re-in, lose-and-you’re-out playoffs situation during their final game of the regular season. (Okay, technically, they could have lost in overtime and still made the playoffs, but my way sounds much more dramatic.)

Of course, no team in the history of the NHL had ever found themselves in last place within their conference midway through the season and then gone on to make the playoffs. (Okay, again—technically, the Caps were dead last in the NHL on Thanksgiving Day when coach Glen Hanlon was fired and replaced with AHL coach Bruce Boudreau but 14th in their conference midway through the season. But you know what? No team has ever been in that position midway through the season and made the playoffs, either.) So, when the Capitals defeated the Florida Panthers (who had actually saved the Caps’ playoff hopes by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes the night before) by the score of 3-1 Saturday night, the team not only secured its first Southeast Division Championship title since the 2000-2001 season and first playoff appearance since the 2002-2003 season, it also secured its place as one of the NHL’s greatest comeback teams in the league’s history.

As much as I hate the fact that the caps beat us to the playoffs, I would love to see them win the cup. Think about how many times that would make the southeast the playoff champions in the last 4 years, 3?

Caps finish the entire NHL season on a 23 game winning streak, after sweeping every playoff round.

There is much rejoicing as Lord's Stanley's Cup is finally in DC. The nation's capital then explodes.

You're an idiot if you think DC doesn't care about the Caps. Tickets are going for $400 a seat right now for the frst games of teh playoffs. We had the MVP chant going for the last 3 games of the season. We love the Caps - and we're gettin the cup.

Yes, this includes lots of blacks - you racist bastard.

D.C. is by its nature a bit of a bandwagon town, but it's got great history as a hockey market, and I think this is the reviving of it with Ovechkin and now the team being good. It's a market that the NHL needs to be successful.

My initial reaction after Friday night was that I didn't care about the playoffs after what happened to the Canes, but that didn't really last long. I'm just as big a hockey fan as a Canes fan, so I'm pretty excited about tonight. This should be a great playoffs.
