There's nothing wrong with him showing support for players that he recruited, but I'm not sure that there are any on the KU roster.

It's pretty silly of him to wear the gigantic Jayhawk pin/sticker/billboard though.

I think I heard there is one player left on Kansas he recruited.

But I'm not sure who it is or how much he plays.

Rodrick Stewart is the only redshirt senior, but I think he transfered (USC?). He probably recruited the seniors but he wouldn't have been there when they signed.

Jeremy Case is the only player Roy Recruited that was on the team this year.

He cares way too much about what others think. That sticker just looked stupid. It wasn't even necessary. Everyone with a brain already knows who he's rooting for.

So if Joe Torre loses to the Dodgers in the playoffs is he going to stick around in a Yankees hat and cheer on the Yankees?

You just don't do that. I think it is great all the UNC fans feel slighted.

Roy wasn't forced out at Kansas he left to coach his alma mater. He didn't leave for money, or because he was gonna get fired, he left because his dream job came open. He still loves Kansas and the fans and the people in the college. Roys players know that his heart is with Carolina this is a family thing.

wow, 17 pages of meltdown over there

but this is a good point:

Quote :
"Roy doesn't "Give a sh*t" about Carolina after Kansas loses.

Roy becomes the freaking Jayhawk mascot after Carolina loses.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In on this. Five years ago he didn't give a sh*t about North Carolina after his team, his players, his coaches, lose in the championship game. Fast forward five years later, his actions seem a little different. 48 hours afer his team, his players, his coaches lose a game, he's out doning gear and cheering for the team that beat his? I don't get it.

Well, to be fair, the interview after the 03 championship game was seconds after walking after the court. Either way, it's questionable behavior.

I don't see how this is a big deal at all.

But WTF is with the sticker? Surely you own a Kansas shirt from coaching there for 15 years.

It has nothing to do with his supporting Kansas. Everyone knows he was there for 15 years or as some people like to put it:
Quote :
"He coached there for 20 years almost"

It has everything to do with the fact that UNC just got it handed to them by this very team, and the STICKER. If I'm Lawson, Ellington, or Hansblow, I'm outraged. Who cares what the fans think in all honesty. If I'm a player, I now have validation that my coach's head wasn't in the game where we got killed, and everyone knows it. Roy got walked by KU, can anyone else explain getting down 40-12 when you have the NPOY and a one two punch like Ellington and Lawson? No you can't unless your coach was in la la land, which he was. Watch his reaction to Danny Green on the FT violation, he looked all out of sorts. So in all actuality, the fans opinion don't matter one bit even though it will be all over JRIB, ATH, and PTI. However, if I'm on the team, I don't really care that my coach was there supporting his former team, but to parade the logo for several hours on national TV after they beat us like a rug? Ellington, Lawson, and Hansblow might be pushed over the edge here, and Lawson I think goes pro. If Hansblow is 1/2 as competitive as I've heard the last 3 years, this will burn, real deep...

"Fire Roy right now.

Hire George Karl. I'd rather have Amaker coaching UNC than a head coach who has no clue how to act in a manner befitting his role.

Your team just got waxed by a rival in the final four, while you watched dumbfounded from the bench over folded fingers, holding onto timeouts like a 3 year old does crayons.

Then you show up at the final game wearing a huge banner for that team that destroyed you, sitting amidst their fans. Well, I'm sorry you (!) but NO one forced you to take this job. We don't need your guilt. We don't need your pious lessons for your own internal conflicts and we do NOT need a coach who's focus is so heavily weighted upon anything other than winning the game at this level."

I saw this quote on deadspin.com a few days ago. It's just from some random messageboard poster, but it seems to sum up how Kansas fans feel about him as well as pointing out how ridiculous it is for him to crave acceptance from two fan bases simultaneously.
Quote :
"Roy is so tortured about being hated by KU fans, but, like most egomaniacs, Roy wants it both ways, to be loved by one divorced fan base while being married to another, no matter what happened in between, and hence all his moaning about those dadgum great things he done for the good people of Kansas. Roy's got some weird personality disorder — he MUST be admired and remembered the exact way that HE wants to be remembered. It's the same quote over and over ad infinitum: "I gave my all, and no one appreciates me anymore..." Well ... a) it was your job to give your all, for which you were paid like an oil baron and fawned over like a rock star and b) just be a man with your decision and quit crying about it like a sixteen year old girl whose ex-boyfriend won't return her calls anymore after she ran off with the JV quarterback. It's ridiculous. I'm tired of the media and talking heads portraying KU fans as this whining group that has no right to feel about the guy the way they want to. All these articles wouldn't dare criticize or at least point out that Roy is emotionally off his rocker, also, and just because he won a bunch of games at KU he deserves to be let off the hook for being a jack ass about the whole UNC thing. KU fans are being absurd? I think it's the other way around."

Dude, are you serious? Do you really think a coach has that much control of what's going on during a game? Sure, he can call timeouts, or change defenses, simple things to try and change the pace of the game to swing momentum, but thats about it. 90% of the coaching is done the week before the game, and whatever happens after that happens. The simple fact here is that UNC got rolled by a faster, better prepared, and more motivated team. You could have replaced Bill Self and Roy Williams with chimps for 40 minutes, and the outcome would have been exactly the same.

I posted this on there too:
Quote :
"I bet this poor decision effects Hansblow's decision to stay or leave. Those of you saying, "Oh I'm sure the players are fine with it" are just lying to yourselves. Did you see the post-game interview of Tyler and how devastated he was about the loss (as funny as it was to NC State fans) and then to think he's gonna be like "Oh yah coach, hold on let me find my contacts and dry my tears, ok, sure go cheer them on and make sure you are decked out in Kansas apparel."

I also used one of NCSUMEB posts too since it was spot on

Also:

Quote :

Ha ha good terms. Tell that to a KU fan. If living in Kansas has taught me one thing for sure, it's that KU fans hate Roy as much as State fans hate Dean Smith.

I understand what he was saying though, but Roy is an idiot if he thinks he can win back the affection of the Jayhawk fans. Wearing a shirt with a sticker ain't winning him any support out here in the plains.
