I guarantee if you go, it will be one of the more fun experiences you have as far as music goes even if you don't like techno/trance.

I can't do it. I'm going to a different show. There's this bad-ass caterer....

And actually, in that second link he's playing Suburban Train, a song he produced.

And in the last two links are songs from his latest CD, all songs he produced.

So uh....

yeah.

You're somewhat correct, but you're also wrong. He could potentially spin entirely from his own library.

im sure tiesto has got some jams that you will never be able to hear anywhere else, hence why some people enjoy going to see a dj "play someone else's records"

reviews that i saw of that tour were pretty dissappointing.

for what it could have been, it didn't live up to the hype.

^^ What? The DJ Shadow or Tiesto tour?

^I guess that's going to boil down to personal opinion in the end. I have a copy of Elements of Life in my car CD player right now.

oh god stop the presses because something didnt live up to all the hype surrounding it!

if you are going to see a dj based purely on "hype," well then yea, youre likely to be dissappointed.

^x3
Parts of the Shadow/CC set were a little blah. Definitely not as hot as Product Placement or Brain Freeze.

But Kid Koala was on fucking point. I was at the very front, and Kid set up his rig on the ground rather than the stage. And if you know anything about Kid, he's short as fuck. So I was able to look down at what he was doing the entire time.

Pretty sick.

Here's a pretty good review from the tour. I went to the Atlanta show, not this one.

i never said anything about seeing anyone purely on hype...but when two of the most unique producers out there come together, you expect something really good (especially with what they were charging for tickets)....when that doesn't happen, its perfectably acceptable to be dissappointed.

im sorry if i won't just be happy with what im given....even it its subpar. ive seen too many good shows to be content with something average.

I know you're just trolling for a bite, but I'll respond anyway. What FroshKiller said is true, prima facie, but it's not the whole story. Everyone knows that most DJs don't play their own music. That's not the point. DJs create the party atmosphere, and depending on the DJs skill at song selection, blending, and other effects he can create with his equipment, he can change the atmosphere of the dance floor.

Quote :

This is also misleading. Mixing records, even those of a 4x4 beat like trance or house, takes a lot of practice. Not to mention it's a lot more complicated than simply starting one off where the other begins. Skilled DJs can mix different portions of different records to create unique effects, they can manipulate the sound through dozens of different instrument panels, and make it sound totally different than just pressing "Play."

One song by itself is just that, a song, and the credit goes to the producer. However, the DJ has the job of creating an entire experience at the club by blending different songs together to create a whole new experience.

This argument is also nullified by the fact that Tiesto has produced a few CDs worth of material anyway, and if you say a DJ is illegitimate based on the fact that he doesn't play his own music, would a DJ who does play his own music, like Tiesto, be legitimate to you?

yea, to get to tiesto's level you have to be at least well versed in SOME type of music production.

otherwise, you're just another DJ amongst millions of other DJ's.

why would a promoter book you and pay you thousands of dollars to just "play" another person's music? surely this is just a big scam by the dj's amirite?

do you have a record out? have you released any licensed mixtapes? have you ever been featured in a respected magazine? have you held residencies at some of the major clubs around the world? you're still able to draw people to your show to hear your music that gets little to no support from radio stations?

all of this, tiesto has done and more. while i may not be a huge fan of the trance style that he pushes, gotta respect the man for being able to draw a crowd by playing "techno" here in rock and roll america.

400 records, a mixer, and two SL1200s. I was one of four DJs on WKNC who actually mixed vinyl live on air instead of selecting songs from the computer or putting in CDs. I played at numerous locations. Would you like me to scan in the flyer for Club Oxygen for you?

my neighbor, who is actually a professor at state, is one of the better dj's i've ever seen, especially the way he mixes and blends songs together. he also doesn't play shitty trance, so that's a plus. i think he'll be djing at mosquito soon for some new KNC-sponsored thing

Why are you getting on his case for liking a certain kind of music?

Its not like he's trying to get a crew to roll to a Bjork event.

$34, eh? I may have to seriously consider it if for nothing more than to experience the atmosphere. I will gladly admit to having a fondness for Tiesto's work.
