That's probably not all that far from the truth. The tri-state area, as I've always said, is 25% diehard Yanks, 25% diehard Mets and 50% bandwagon. No secret there...

There are some people who genuinely like both teams in good times and bad

Since they're in different leagues and only play 6 games vs each a year, its not that hard to pull for both

Its the same way with Giants/Jets

The Yankees and Red Sox have been rivals for eons. The Mets have only been around since the early 60s, have been relevant for at most 25% of that time, and never played a game against the Yankees until interleague play started in 97.

^ yes but the sox yankees rivalry did not re-heat until after 2001. prior to that it was NYY vs. NYM in the media and culture of NY when that picture was taken.

it doesn't matter, this thread does matter. that picture has been around for a while.

but thanks for the history lesson. i totally forgot the history of the two major league teams from my hometown.
