Quote :
"Ken-
Congratulations! The next chapter of your life is about to become reality and along with that comes responsibility and maturity. We are very proud of all your accomplishments during your school career thus far. You have worked hard for good grades and we hope that it continues throughout your years in college. Based on your accomplishments, we feel that you have the potential to be very successful in your chosen career path. However, that is solely based upon your desire for excellent grades, high motivation, focus on your education, high level of maturity/responsibility and the ability to make the correct/proper decisions while living away from home at College."

Quote :
"Our General Expectations:
- Avoid drugs and alcohol at all times. This includes avoiding parties/gatherings that you know will be heavily focused on drugs/alcohol. Remember that it is okay to say 'NO!'. Be a leader, not a follower."

Quote :
"- Practice abstinence. Sex before marriage is degrading and immoral for both partners. There are many diseases in the world caused by sex with AIDS leading them all which can lead to serious illness and/or premature death. Respect yourself and respect the lady you care about."

Quote :
"- PC abuse will not be tolerated. You are to avoid all unauthorized websites (porn, unauthorized sites as deemed by NC State and us). No one else is authorized to use this PC. You are not to experiment with this PC (it is not a toy. It is an expensive piece of electronic equipment). Experimenting includes removing and loading operating systems, downloading unofficial software from others, etc. A personal PC at NC State is a privilege, not a requirement. Avoid situations that will lead to the loss of that privilege"

Quote :
"Unacceptable Behavior and the Consequences:
- Drugs, alcohol or sex: If you are involved in any of the fore mentioned you will be required to seek professional help within a support group. You will also be responsible for paying for the expenses for that school year."

Quote :
"Non-school sponsored events outside of Wake County will require our approval. If you abuse this requirement, then you will be required to commute from home rather then living on campus for the remainder of that year"

Sounds like you came from a good home

I made a lot of immoral decisions in college before I finally got back on the right track

Indeed.

My parents expected us to do this with explicitly saying it. They said make the grades and you can keep your truck.

Damn. Sometimes I think my parents are overprotective but that there is a bit much.

It's highly entertaining though, and I do believe it's something you should bring up to them at every available opportunity. There's sheltering (like I was) and then there's sheltering (like that is trying to be).

Dear Mom and Dad,

seeing as how it is my 21st birthday I thought I'd ask you if it was ok to go to a bar tonight and celebrate with my friend who is a girl but not a girlfriend. I will only have one beer and hopefully only a kiss on the cheek.

love, qntmfred

How exactly did they plan on enforcing all of the rules about your computer? Did they put spyware on there or something to see if you visited any porn sites?

You know what, I'm going to take the opposite perspective of most people. While some of it comes off as being too much (informing when you leave Wake County) the vast majority of it comes from morals and values.

Snewf said he violated all those things before he graduated high school. So what? Most people do. Most people are also mediocre and while I'm not equating the two, I reflect upon the fact of how much of my life in college was lost in a haze of that kind of behavior. I have nothing to show for it but lost time and regrets.

But when someone else tries to be decent, and not take the path you took, they should ridiculed and trolled.

Damn your parents suck, mine knew I drank, fucked, and probably smoked before college and they pretty much said hey we will pay, just get good grades, be involved, stay out of trouble, with an emphasis on not driving drunk.

I'm also a parent and I would never have my child sign a contract like that, but I sure do understand the desire to do something so silly now that I have a kid.

I know a lot of kids who have gone nuts (combination of alcohol, drugs, and freedom) because there parents imposed this shit on them in high school and tried to do it in college.

Sorry, I didn't clarify a lot of stuff.

I was expected to:
Go to college
Not do drugs
Not drive drunk
Not cause a wreck
Not get too drunk too often
Use condoms
Be a leader
Not go overboard with the porn
Not download music
Not play video games all day
Get good grades
Think for myself
Keep in shape

without being told to or to sign a contract.

^That sounds pretty reasonable.

My favorite thing is that my small private high school (graduating class 13, created basically bc of racism) were always busting me and two of my friends balls because they knew we drank/probably smoked on the weekends. We're the only three to amount to anything out of that fucking class.

i'm all for letting my kids practice good judgment, without telling them no for every explicit scenario

having to deal with the full consequences of your own fuck-up is a better teaching experience than just being told not to do it

This may be a dumb question, but how much of the contract did you honor?

Forget that, how fast did you break it?

end of an AIM conversation with my mom on friday:
"Mom" (5:43:29 PM): love you too, have a nice and safe weekend. Don;t do DRUGS, love mom

my parents were never very strict, but I've never gotten into any trouble. I guess they assume they raised my to make good decisions (or at least better ones than they made at my age). Gotta love em.

So when I became friends with Ken and eventually dated him, I got to understand how sheltered he was. I was not crazy wild but I came into their house with multiple tattoos, a lip labret, stop sign red hair, and a very blunt way of talking. I was so scared they would never accept me. Some people just need a TON of patience and an exposure to something/someone way different than their little bubble. They love me now and are now even ok with my honest and very vulnerable way of talking. They even say I love you to him and me on a frequent basis.

I hope Maya becomes an upstanding citizen bc he and I come from VERY different styles of parenting.
