But this is mostly an American phenomenon that we're talking about here, and everyone of age to make the decision to become a "straight edger" understands what tattoos mean in OUR culture. The dominant ideology is that they are damaging, irresponsible, and stupid in the long run. Besides, many indigenous cultures use drugs in spiritual or other non-recreational uses, so if we're basing this on their morality, drugs aren't nessecarily bad.
Honestly, I'm not against this, because everyone needs some form of release, and to deny yourself absolutely everything would be the fast track to looney-ville. But it just seems really REALLY hypocritical.

I disagree on the pre-marital sex part. I think a lot of people took Minor Threat's "Out of Step" lyrics to be the mantra of straight edge when it really isn't.
