So I come to Louisiana about once a week for work. I've always seen these drive-thru daiquiri shops and I finally decided to go to one tonight. Basically, all they serve are different flavors of daiquiris in huge cups. They run daily specials & you can go inside if you wish to drink at the bar.
The way they get around open container laws in the state is to put a top on the cup & hand you a straw. It's pretty awesome.
Anyone been? 4/16/2008 9:28:24 PM |

as a kid there was this one that was exactly an hour from my grandparents house. It was a barn they had converted, drive in one barn door and back out the other. It was always the big HURAH of the trip
Now when i go home me and my dad go. Or ill go to the liquer store with my uncle and when we get in the car he'll hand me a paper bag to drink it. 4/16/2008 9:56:05 PM |

When I was there, the way they get around the open container law was that the straw was inserted in the cup, but they put a piece of masking tape across the top of the straw. 4/16/2008 10:37:23 PM |

I'm confused...so they sell drivers alcohol, or is it just for passengers in the car...or is it one of those don't ask don't tell policies? 4/16/2008 10:51:02 PM |

usually when alcohol is involved with drive thru, it means someone just drove THROUGH the store 4/16/2008 10:53:54 PM |

no masking tape this time, just a straw in the wrapper
drinks for anyone who wants them, not just passengers.
and i (the driver) was allowed 3 samples of the different drinks before choosing 4/17/2008 8:29:26 AM |

Old hat, I got to the point where they didn't even card me anymore. There's one here on Chef Menteur Hwy. that even has a bootleg guy in the parking lot. He sells pretty much everything, or knows someone who does. 4/17/2008 10:04:33 PM |

depends on the set up-- most of them look like the one above but the real trick will be pulling around the building in drive-thru fashion
you be the judge.

brew-thru.. we all know about it, NC has them near the beach
this place gives you an alcoholic drink in your hand. the only thing keeping you from it is a plastic lid and or straw
i haven't seen drive thru daiquiri shops in any other state
sightings??
disclaimer: i waited until i got back to the hotel to enjoy my beverage. however i did cause my 2 passengers to spill theirs in the car due to antics. 4/22/2008 10:56:26 PM |
