I've got an 8830 and what it's doing is when ever the ball highlights something it autmatically depresses whatever it highlights. its going crazy. its calling people randomly, replying to emails and then sending them. It even types a couple of letters.

Anyone know a fix?

i can, but this would be the 4th replacement.

1) 77XX aka "Black Hockey Puck" - Got lube in it, while having freaky sex in my hotel room. BB was in the bed with us.

2) 8830 #1 was on the charger and I had my feet up on a bookshelf and knocked the cord over. Lost the ability to keep a charge on it.

3) 8830 #2 washing machine and then the dryer. amazingly it still powered. the light red light would come on on the top of it, but no screen.

My company has warranties on all the phones, but this is getting excessive. I'm afraid if I send the 4TH one back it'll be an issue. or someone will find out about it and I'll have to explain the above.

none of these would be covered under the standard RIM warranty, and it'd be pretty hard to make up a story to rationalize these damages as otherwise.

don't treat your phone like shit, and it won't work like shit. it's simple.

i've had a treo 750 for almost 2 years now... the same one... of course, i do fun things such as put my phone in the cradle on my desk in my office before i go to bed, take it out of my pocket before i wash my clothes, and make sure lube does not come into contact with it

i keep my phone in my pocket. i'm not the type to carry around a "phone case" or use a "blue tooth headset" or anything else gay like that. i guess I'm just used to man-handling my phone.

there has to be some way to fix this. i.e. a software upgrade or something. i think the phone is just buggy.

no, the select on the trackball is a hardware switch. it's not a software problem.

and i don't have my phone in a case nor use a bluetooth headset

one of my jobs also frequently has me working in less-than-ideal environments

it was available for sale late december 2006, i ordered one the day it came out on cingular.

i've got the same phone...even dropped it once and all is well. but then again i don't involve it in lubed up sexy time adventures so that might partially explain my good luck with it.


^i wouldn't say that < =1.5 years is anything close to 'almost' 2 years...

I had some input problems with my 8100 recently. I removed all the third-party apps and upgraded to the latest OS and it's perfect again.
