Try some St. Bernardus Prior 8, they used to be a trappist ale, but arent anymore, but still use the same recipe.

Its by far my favorite beer.

negative, ghost rider

trappist beers are trendy at the moment, but the quality can't be ignored. It's the same as the Lamborghini Diablo in the 80s... very trendy, but that's because it was awesome, not because a bunch of elitists thought it would be "cool."

Personally, though, I can't have more than 1 or 2 Trappists... but I will say that Belgian White beer is the best in the world.

that's true. its certainly not for everyone. plus, i really wasn't into beer all that much until I went to Belgium 2 years ago and spent some time in Ghent. My love affair started then...

through college I was mostly a liquor man...

also belgians cost like twice as much as Busch Lite

but you get two or three times as much alcohol per beer, so I think it evens out!

i like hoppy beers, but they can be way overdone. in order for a beer to be good, (in my opinion) it has to have some sense of balance that some of these crazy hoppy fad beers lack.

I <3 hops. can't have too much!

I like strong flavored beers. None of the subtle flavors, I just can't taste those.

maybe

but I've never had a beer and said, "oh my stars and garters, this beer has far too many hops for my delicate constitution!"

I like hoppy beers, but this is one that was almost unpleasant to drink when I first had it. It's burn isn't bad after you have had one or two but that first sip had me saying, "holy shit, I'm not sure if this is even pleasant." Apparently it changes a bit every year, and I haven't had it recently so maybe it's been balanced out a bit since then.

eh, I don't think the ramen noodle crowd ventures too far up the shelf past busch light. I get annoyed with beer nerds/elitists, but I do enjoy a variety of beers and I like to discuss that interest with like minded individuals at times.
