I take fish oil pills several times during the day.
I've switched from coffee to caffeine pills lately. I take one before a training session.
I drink a mix of powdered gatorade and ON whey before (if I haven't eaten in 3 or more hours or so before a workout), another duing the workout depending on length (most of the time not) and always one after, w/ micronized creatine monohydrate, also.

I'm also going to give either a custom mix protein a go or check out ON whey's 2-1 recovery mix, soon (in replacement of gatorade and whey)
^ not unless you are taking very excessive amounts. It really doesn't 'homie'.

If you are broke and/or cheap, here's how to make your own protein bars: http://www.ecojoes.com/how-to-make-cheap-homemade-protein-bars/
On a related note, I have two bottles of Super Sterol Complex; I got them for free, and don't want them. Does anyone want some free steroids???? 4/21/2008 3:10:05 PM |

if you want a good forum to find out about this kind of information, i would check out
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/index.php
Its a pretty extensive site that has workout info, diet, and a few supplement sections that discuss different drugs. This section http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=70 is called Supplement Science. There is also a women's section that would probably have more tailored responses for you. 4/21/2008 3:15:22 PM |

Ah
well I just do daily vitamins and sometimes have a protein drink, it might be whey, I can't remember. I don't work out enough to validate the extra creatine, fish oil, and other specialty supplements. My Mom raised us to be ultra healthy too, and she's really into the specialty supplements like fish oil, omega whatever, all that stuff. 4/21/2008 3:24:23 PM |

what exactly does fish oil and flax seeds do...? 4/21/2008 3:25:22 PM |
ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
Quote : | "Fish oil is recommended[citation needed] for a healthy diet because it contains the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), precursors to eicosanoids that reduce inflammation throughout the body
On September 8, 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave "qualified health claim" status to [omega-3 fatty acids], stating that "supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA [n-3] fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease."[2]" |
Quote : | "Flax seeds contain high levels of lignans and Omega-3 fatty acids. Lignans may benefit the heart, possess anti-cancer properties and studies performed on mice found reduced growth in specific types of tumours. Initial studies suggest that flaxseed taken in the diet may benefit individuals with certain types of breast[4][5] and prostate cancers.[6] Flax may also lessen the severity of diabetes by stabilizing blood-sugar levels.[7] There is some support for the use of flax seed as a laxative due to its dietary fiber content[2] though excessive consumption without liquid can result in intestinal blockage.[8] Consuming large amounts of flax seed can impair the effectiveness of certain oral medications, due to its fiber content.[8]" |

i work out rather extensively and i have need nothing more than water and a multi-vitamin. you shouldn't need more than the protein you can get from a balanced diet, so taking whey is a waste of cash, as is creatine b/c all that really does is retain water. Then again if you want to bottle and sell your piss for high dollar, i guess it could make sense.
even if you're working out and your goal is extreme muscle building you still shouldn't need more than 0.8g/lb. Most people do fine with .5g/lb. You'll find a lot of people who will tell you otherwise but thats because they want a market of continually purchased products that they can sell to people despite what they actually need to intake. 4/21/2008 4:26:57 PM |

I took it out of context. But as a rule: always eat before lifting. You just a little protein and carbs. I buy those mini-gatorade bottles and fill it with about 10-15g's of whey 30 min before I lift. 4/21/2008 5:10:58 PM |

i also dont like cycling off of things
in my observation of athletic teammates, if you dont cycle properly off the creatine as directed by the labeling (or even with resect to your own physical make up) you get fat and sloppy
not gonna lie like i havent taken supplements...ive taken concentrated energy stuff, creatine, whey protein etc. i dont like feeling like i have to depend on them thats just my personal experience
besides i kinda like feeling some pain nowadays

If you are consuming a lot of protein for the purposes of working out it is VERY IMPORTANT to make sure you are getting sufficient amounts of calcium. Some people really overdo it with the protein and this can cause you to have a calcium deficiency. Things like milk, yogurt, etc are good to mix into your diet because they have complete proteins as well as calcium. 4/21/2008 5:21:53 PM |

Restricted, do you not buy into the avoidance of HFCS?
Also, powdered, assided from not using HFCS, is also dirt cheap in comparrison to what you spend buying your little bottles.
You could make an argument against getting xenoestrogens by reusing my plastic bottle forever, but I think that's a little over-reaching. 4/21/2008 5:22:09 PM |
