i can't remember the last time i didn't fill up when i had to get gas. i guess i just realized that i'm going to spend x amount of dollars in gas no matter how often i fill up, might as well stop less often.

It only costs about 30 bucks to fill up my car though.

right now i dont give a fuck. it takes 13 gallons and goes about 500 miles on that. Considering I drive about 20 miles a day, I literally fill up every 3 weeks or more and that ain't bad.

last... wednesday or so.

im such a fag i probably posted it on here somewhere. probably posted the price too.

HELL I PROBABLY SCANNED THE RECEIPT!!1

---- on a more serious note ---

this thread reminds me, why is it that when im lazy and in a hurry in the mornings and just stop and get 10 in gas and a cup of coffee and a pack of rolos, it only lasts like 2 days. (the rolos last about 4.6 seconds)

hell, not even 2 days. it lasts me to work and back, and to work again. a round trip and a half.... but when i fill it up for 70, it lasts soooooo much more than 7 times as long?

i figure the price is only going to go up, so its probably cheapest to fill up every time.

it is getting pretty ridiculous. today on the way home it was 3.50 at shell and 3.45 at quicktrip. and i'm about to start a new job with a 40mile round trip commute as opposed to a 10mile round trip.

If prices are falling though you can easily save a footlong sub at Subway worth of gas by not filling up.

when you have a full tank, there is less room for the gas to "evaporate" so a full tank will last longer. It's always better to try to keep your tank as close to full as you can.

and as far as the thread is concerned, i filled up this morning

^^ my tank holds 18 gallons. if prices are falling by $.10/gallon, i might save $1.80

which subway are you buying footlongs at for $1.80?

[Edited on April 21, 2008 at 11:34 PM. Reason : and gas prices falling $.10 is a stretch]

when is the last time gas prices fell more than a few pennies without going up again? the last significant drop i remember is when things settled down well after katrina. if you want to gamble on gas prices going down rather than up, would you mind picking me up a lottery ticket next time you're out?

aren't some people prone to using more gas (by driving unnecessarily) when the tank is full?

iow, when the tank is only a quarter-full or less, aren't some people more likely to conserve?

I mean, if you have a pound of pot, you're gonna be twisting up joints all day, having parties, baking brownies, etc.

likewise, if you have a full tank of gas, you're gonna be driving around all day, taking road trips, racing other cars, etc.

of course, not everyone would experience this tendency -- I'm just saying many do, perhaps unknowingly

when I pay with a credit card I never really worry about costs

whether it be gas, food, internet porn pay sites, whatever

it could be 6 bucks a gallon and I'd still drive my SUV all over town

i'm not sure how you're thinking its cheaper to get just a little at time. assuming you have a 20 gallon tank, are starting with an empty tank, the price increases every time you purchase gas, and it takes the same amount time to use a complete tank of gas:

itererative fillup bulk fillup
gallons price/gallon total cost gallons price/gallon total cost
5 3 15 20 3.00 60
5 3.15 15.75
5 3.25 16.25
5 3.35 16.75
63.75

5 3.45 17.25 20 3.45 69
5 3.55 17.75
5 3.65 18.25
5 3.75 18.75
72.00

by filling up all at once you save 3.75 on the first tank and 3.00 on the second tank. of course these are diminishing returns as the price goes up, unless the price jumps become more significant.

i really dont understand everyone bitching about the prices. i mean im seriously not trying to front like im some super baller or whatever. and i use midgrade at the minimum, depending on the brand i sometimes use premium.

so even if regular went to 4.00 a gallon, premium would be 4.19, and that would cost me about 84 per tank. and thats not that terrible really. considering how important getiing from A to B is.

and its soooo much more fuel efficient (maybe im just tricking myself) if you always fill it every time.

you guys must just drive way too much or something. i mean it takes me an hour or more to get home from work every day cause i make sure i dont have to leave for any non-fun stuff once i get home, but i'm just not seeing the huge crybaby stuff thats going around where they're like interviewng people sitting in mcdonalds 3 mile long drive thru and the people are saying "omg i cant go to the beach for vacation with the kids this summer "

like seriously, YO, if you can't save up 50 bucks for gas to drive to the beach and back, then you suck. and the $50 is assuming gas was FREE last year. gimme a break

I haven't had a job for 5 months, my savings are running out, and I still fill up my gas tank every time.

Gas is cheap as shit, and at the same time it's expensive as mess when you don't have an income.

BOTH SIDES ARE TOTALLY RIGHT. It's the cheapest, most overpriced commodity ever.

thats a LONG walk

i drive to columbia about once every two months. even at $4.00 / gallon, it's still cheaper than taking the train (which i would prefer to do so i can work/sleep/etc.) that doesn't count getting to the train station, either getting a cab or a ride when i get there, and it takes longer. the worst part is the train runs at crappy hours: from raleigh to columbia, the only time i've seen offered is depart at 9pm, get there at 2am. back it's depart at 4am, get here at 9am.

i still want to take the train though . maybe next time.

hey dirtymonkey i took the train from GSO to raleigh about a month ago to go see my brother. 28 bucks round trip. saved a little money and got to do some reading on the way, didnt have to pay attention and drive, etc

only problem is, everyone takes the train now (i used to take it a lot when i lived in raleigh, and it was always empty)... this time it was literally 100% full and the ticket was 2 times as much.

plus you have to have someone pick you up at the station when you get there. you can take the bus to the station in town round trip for like 2 bucks.

but id say its worth it for a change. just not really convenient enough to do all the time. plus the damn thing is late all the time
