So, basically my boss has a bunch of protected music he's downloaded through iTunes (legally, of course). It's around 1000 songs. His hard drive in his computer completely failed the other day... I have not connected his iPod yet and need to know the best way to transfer all of this music back to iTunes. The one time I tried it before with my own library when I tried to play music it would tell me I had to authorize that computer--I'd authorize it and then it still would not work and just keep telling me I had to authorize it. I'd obviously like a better outcome since he has so much legal music.

So, any instructions on the best way to do this without losing all of his music??

you can call itunes and they make a one time exception for redownloading it all.

I used this program to get all this crap off my friends ipod....I can't remember the name, but I paid $25 for it. Imported and found all cover art.

ok internet is going to shit over here...3rd try.

basically copied all the songs off of ipod, imported to my library, authorize computer...worked fine

did the same on his and keeps asking to authorize. he has only authorized on 4 computers (counting mine) so that shouldn't be the problem

updating itunes now to see if that helps

If it's saying it's not authorized, then it could be the wrong account trying to be authorized. just a thought

the same account worked fine to authorize his music on my computer but not on his. this was on an old version of itunes (didnt work) but on new version (my computer) it did work.

anyways, he left at noon today and i just synced his ipod with my computer real quick so he could have it at the gym the rest of the week. i'll finish it next week

update itunes, sometimes older versions will NOT validate with any songs from newer versions, and often older versions block some sections of itunes store.

awesome, thanks. i had just reinstalled windows about a week before and hadn't installed service packs yet bc he wanted on his computer as soon as i had it back up..so yea, the updated itunes wouldn't install without SP1 at least

Just hook up the iPod to the computer WITHOUT itunes open. The iPod should show up in My Computer and you can actually see the music in a hidden folder on the iPod. It isn't named correctly but if you drag that folder to his computer and then drag it into itunes the tags will remain and itunes will rename the files.

I've done all that..although I used anapod explorer instead so I didn't have to rename anything. The problem is they're protected files and it won't let me play them on his computer even with his computer authorized.

Yeah... it'd be a pain, he's got mainly just one or two songs from an album or artist, etc. so yea, no easy way to do it.

but i'm 99.9% sure after doing some reading earlier that the new version of itunes will fix it
