I disagree here. First of all McCain can't make the decisions for the NCGOP (which the NCGOP has denied his request to take the ad down).

All the ad is is the same youtube videos that's been all over the MSM. Even still, it's a legitimate topic for discussion as we choose the democratic nominee.

I think McCain fears the GOP will be viewed as race baiting.

Hi Everyone!

Bev Perdue here...just standing very closely to some of my many Black friends.

You know those mean republicans are running an ad that makes it look like I hate America. Poppycock. I love America. And I support Barack because of change, and hope and audacity!

I'd also like to point out that Andy Griffith just endorsed me. Everyone loves Andy Griffith. Barney cracks me up.

Now I don't know about Richard Moore. He just might be an America-hating, racist son-of-a-bitch...time will tell.

But you can be assured that a vote for Bev Perdue is a vote to continue the great job we democrats have been doing running the great state of Noth Carolina.

My friends here agree that Bev Perdue keeps it real!

Something the NC GOP has no problem with.

Fortunately for McCain, he can oppose the ad and avoid taking any flak while still reaping the benefits in November.

Well he may reap the benefits, but due to Barack Obama. He's the one with the 20-year relationship with an unabashed biggot.

What is a 'biggot'? Is that like some type of gigantic hobbit?

And who gives a shit about the GOP ads. It will only work on hicks, super Christians, and idiots. None of which are voting for Obama anyway. It won't matter and it's more Jessie Helms bullshit we've seen before. Luckily much of the state has progressed from this crap.

There's nothing more to talk about with the Wright thing. It is what it is and we've all heard Obama's stance on this countless amount of times. He had the stones to actually come out and face it head on which 98% of other politicians wouldn't do. People already know by now unless they were hibernating underground. So this ad isn't worth shit.

Of course, this all matters a great deal because the NCGOP has historically been a very well organized and significant part of the political process.

Are you North Carolinian? Have you paid attention to the politics of this state? Although there is a substantial Democrat population in this state, many of them are conservative "Southern Democrats" who are registered and can vote for Obama. Many of those evil super Christians you speak ill of are the very Democrats you claim won't be voting for Obama (assumingly because they're retarded Republicans).

You're right. They won't be voting for Obama. How is this not applicable?

Bob Orr has also said the ad should not be run.

This ad can only backlash on the NC GOP. You must remember, this isn't an anti-Obama ad, but a thin attempt to link Richard Moore and Bev Perdue to Rev. Wright.

I wonder which angry nerd was responsible for this?

Quote :
"A man heckling First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna outside the 92nd Street Y was arrested after he punched a wheelchair-bound girl whose parents had told him to shut up, authorities said Wednesday.

German Talis, 22, was shouting obscenities at the Bushes, who were leaving the building Tuesday, when he crossed paths with Wendy and John Lovetro and their daughter Maureen, 18, who has cerebral palsy.

They had been in the audience to hear the Bushes talk about their children's book, "Read All About It."

"He began yelling about Iraq and Iran at Jenna Bush. She was waving at the crowd. I told the guy, 'What are you doing? Shut up. This is about a child and books,' " said John Lovetro. "He was unperturbed. I said, 'Get out of here! You're being a moron!' "

The next thing he knew, Talis was allegedly punching Maureen, a fan of the first lady since meeting her in 2004.

^Democrats, by and large, believe that they are smarter than Republicans. It's a view that I hear repeated by many, many liberals. Especially on issues that are near and dear to the democratic party, if you aren't with them then you're "an idiot". The reverse is rarely true when it comes to Republicans. Sure, you'll find an AlexAsInCato here and there with a narcissistic view of the world in general and liberals in particular, but for the most part elitism and perceived intellectual superiority is exclusive to the dems.

Hell, we've had several threads on the matter here in the soapbox. Usually the justification for this snobby attitude is that "it's not elitist if it's true".

Ha-ha!

In any event, the NC GOP has a responsibility to its down-ticket candidates. Obviously, the NC GOP believes it can help Republican candidates and negatively affect Moore and Perdue--both of whom have endorsed Obama--by associating them with Obama, his left-wing positions, and the pastor disaster.

John McCain, on the other hand, gets to play both sides of the street by condemning the ad and seeming to be above it all--the only real kink in that line is Obama called his bluff. Obama came out and said that McCain should have the power to force the NC GOP to stop running the ad. So if the NC GOP doesn't stop running the ad, some might interpret that as weakness, disorganization, or something along those lines on McCain's part.

Concerning the ad, frankly, I don't see a problem. Both Perdue and Moore have endorsed Obama, and if Obama's comments, positions, and associations are being called into question, then the endorsements are fair game.

The guy on the Right for NC People and Politics on WPTF soundly condemned this ad today. It makes it seem like there's not much good to say about the GOP candidates if their first big ad out is simply one that makes no mention of GOP platform whatsoever. Do they have that little confidence in their candidates for Gov.? I found this article from today's N&O from Rod Christensen pretty telling. This is the state GOP of Jesse Helms, you know...

Quote :
" Rob Christensen, Staff Writer
We are seeing the return of Jesse Helms-style politics.

The N.C. Republican Party is scheduled to begin airing a new TV commercial Tuesday featuring video of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright making inflammatory remarks about America's treatment of African-Americans.

As everyone by now knows, Wright is the former pastor of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. But the ad goes further, tying the two leading Democratic candidates for governor, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and state Treasurer Richard Moore, to Wright because they endorsed Obama.

The ad is so racially tinged that the national Republican Party and Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, asked that it not be run. McCain said the ad "degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats."

"They're not listening to me because they're out of touch with reality and the Republican Party," McCain said on NBC's "Today" Show. "We are the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, and this kind of campaigning is unacceptable."

We have seen this before -- North Carolina Republicans using racially loaded commercials only to be disowned by their national leaders.

During North Carolina's last consequential presidential primary in 1976, California Gov. Ronald Reagan was challenging sitting President Gerald Ford.

Sen. Helms' political organization had taken over the Reagan campaign in North Carolina. Tom Ellis, the Raleigh lawyer who was Helms' chief strategist, played the race card.

The Ford campaign had released a list of potential vice presidential running mates that included Sen. Edward Brooke of Massachusetts, the first black U.S. senator of the 20th century.

The Helms organization printed leaflets with the headline: "Ford suggests Brooke as a possible partner."

When Reagan learned of the flier he ordered a halt -- although whether it was actually stopped is an open question. "The governor has never campaigned on race, never used it as an issue and never will and feels strongly about it," Michael Deaver, Reagan's chief of staff, said at the time.

In 1990, the Helms organization was at it again. This time Helms was facing a competitive challenge from former Charlotte Mayor Harvey Gantt, an African-American architect.

The state GOP -- at the instigation of the Helms organization -- mailed 125,000 postcards into black neighborhoods warning them that they might commit voter fraud if they have recently moved, in an effort to depress black turnout.

The U.S. Justice Department under the first President Bush called the mailing "false and misleading" and sent dozens of lawyers and observers into the state to make sure no one was improperly prevented from voting. There was an FBI investigation.

The state Republican Party later settled a lawsuit with the Bush Justice Department. They denied any wrongdoing but promised not to use any similar "ballot security" programs in the future.

So Reagan, the first Bush administration and now McCain have all denounced the racially tinged tactics used by Helms Republicans. But the state GOP keeps using them, because it thinks the strategy works.

The Republican Party says the Wright-Obama ad was produced in house. But the word on the street is that it was created by a veteran of the Helms organization.

The ghost of elections past. "

And the Obama campaign responded to John McCain's rejections of the Wright ad...by saying he that McCain is unfit to lead [a clean campaign]. Real classy Obama.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/04/24/mccain-camp-under-false-impression-that-nc-gop-obama-ad-was-killed/

If Obama doesn't want a clean campaign (and he doesn't, because he is the master of being able to shit on everyone without getting his own clothes dirty), then I say let all hell break loose. Obama may think his shit don't stink now, but we'll see how he well he fares when he isn't preaching to the choir come November.

Hahahaha, McCain as pandering? To whom? That's the one thing he's known NOT to do... unless you mean pander as in support for everything you disagree with. Which, if that's the case, you should probably find a new word. Look at his record on earmarks alone. Then compare it to Hilama. Who panders?

let the left fall apart by itself. i just love watching obama/hillary preach unity in america while they are deeply dividing their party.

the only reason hillary is losing is b/c she is answering questions with real nitty gritty answers. obama is just punting and dodging. it'll catch up soon.

As much as I dislike McCain. The fact that you call this man, after all he has been through, spineless is fucking absurd.

You support obama bc he is more "of the people" comrade, I get that. But dont call McCain spineless then profess your support for fucking obama. Its like calling Tom Brady a shitty qb, and then saying how great Tim Couch is.

And who's responsible for us facing no adversity since the Iraq and Afghanistan exercises started pray tell? Who told the country that they didn't need to change, sacrifice, or do anything differently with our lives to ensure success?

Honestly, our politicians and government have pushed the notion on its citizens so hard that the wars of this country can be won by pushing a button and that the people don't have to sacrifice a thing for victory. What other consequence do you expect from such a point of view that is so widespread among both liberals and conservatives?

"The Iraq War is going on and our country is in trouble, how can we help?"

"You don't need to help. Just go watch some football."
