what would u do, mount all this crap in a car somewhere? i don't think u could slip it in a purse like u mention...ignoring the bulkiness, doesn't the phone/gps receiver need to have some sort of light if sight with the sky?

could be used like a lojack too

Hah, so in seriousness, I can see this working actually quite well being hardwired to your car like a lojack, provided the amp-draw stays minimal with that extended runtime mode.

you could always put the cell phone on a battery charger and hook it up in the car... Just install it like in one of the maintenance door slots in the trunk or under the front seats. Something with easy access and no one is the wiser.

you can get one for free with a modest monthly tracking fee that would probably not cost much more than lots of text messages on a pre-paid plan. there are lots of really cheap tracking options

i have a GPS receiver (from microsoft streets and trips)

this could cost me $40. man i would be interested.

i'll do it if you guys can just do the part of finding all the parts.

for things like a company truck, heard of people getting those cell phones for children that have GPS built-in so parents can track where their kids are. it's a lot cheaper, and better tested.

i tried the cellphone thing to track trucks, but you had to constantly have a clear line of site or it would base its location on the nearest cell site. didn't come close to a hard mounted GPS device with an antenna, but for no cost up front and less than $30/month they worked pretty well.
