i consider the characters and storyline in evangelion to be more deep and thought provoking than anything i've ever seen come out of hollywood - i'm glad i got the chance to see it and didn't write it off because it was anime

Oh God yes. I swear, that series seriously changed Japan. Over 10 years later and it's influence is everywhere. I don't think it did anything that had never been done before, but it is the fucking poster child of anime.
