sakura and hibachi express are both pretty nasty

hit up fujiyama on kildaire farm or sushi thai (yes, they have japanese food) right down the road on kilmayne

China Town buffet in Cary has a huge sushi bar and a hibachi grill in addition to some pretty good chinese food.

Lunch is $10, dinner is $15 but you get all you can eat crab legs with it.

there's also akari in mission valley. it's the americanized japanese food like sakura, but still tasty, and the owners and employees are cool guys. they do daily specials also.

try the geisha roll, it's great!

An in Cary is great pan-Asian food, but it's pricey and a bit more formal.

Kashin in Crossroads is good, but I will second Akari. It's a very good restaurant and the owners are extremely nice.

they haven't been open long and arn't well staffed, both times ive been there we had to wait a considerable amount of time for our food but getting it to-go isn't bad

As for an, Ive been to an a couple of times but friday I took a girlfriend it was a total mess. Its a beautiful place , foods good, service is .... uh, not so much and unless your going for that sorta ambiance or a special occasion i would go somewhere else. For that kinda money its really irritating to leave unhappy

Nobody has said sushi-thai, its close and not bad for the price. They also do dollar sushi and $4 rolls i think at night. If you like traditional japanese food Waraji has alot of great dishes. Their sushi is super but if you order it on a weekend just know youll probably have to wait about 45 minues from the time you order it, well worth the wait though

If you think Sakura is good then don't bother spending money on real Japanese food.

Sushi-Thai
Kashin

And if you are near Wake Forest, Hayashi. I've only been there once and didn't have sushi, but what I had was awesome. A friend of mine claims it's the best Japanese food and the best sushi he's ever had.

little tokyo over off of where maynard and e. chatham intersect is really good. its really small though so if you go during the busy dinner hours you'll have a wait.

Japanesse food or even Vietnamese food both PWN chinese food imho.

I don't get why the later 2 are not more popular. Chinesse food just always has the overly greasy sesame oil taste.

Go to Seattle. There's a Japanese and/or Vietnamese restaurant on every street corner.

Also, I can't believe no one has mentioned Waraji yet. They have some pretty damn good donburi.

i can't believe "good japanese" and "sakura on hillsborough" were used in the same sentence.

also i second sushi thai. there was also a sushi place in durham i went to last year that was really good (near the tobacco district stuff -- kinda near that oyster bar place) but i can't remember the name.

If you want Sushi, go to Waraji or Shabu Shabu. I prefer the former, but you can also get Thai at Shabu Shabu. I've heard Sushi Thai in Cary is decent. The one in Raleigh has cool decorations, but they come with a terrible sanitation grade.
