bed is too small for any real projects. and its gets just as shitty gas mileage as a full size truck 4/28/2008 10:05:16 AM |

truck or suv, just make your mind up. you can't cram them both onto a chassis and when they try to it ends up being an ugly pos that doesn't really serve either purpose well. 4/28/2008 10:47:34 AM |

yeah im not real sure. parents always promised me a car for graduation and we aren't exactly loaded so i'm in a certain price range (~$14,000). don't really do anything that requires a truck but i would like a little something to make tailgating/carrying baseball equipment better (i have an explorer sport right now... i tailgate a lot and i'm a baseball coach).
thanks for the input, any more? 4/28/2008 11:05:36 AM |

one of my best friends drives a Sport-Trac. I think his is an 05 or 06 but its essentially the same thing. I like it, we ride in it almost every weekend. We can fit 5 guys in it, not the most comfortable but its not the worst either. Also, it has enough towing power for a car full of people and a 19' boat on the back (enough, not plenty). I've driven it a handful of times to the beach and back and they drive smooth. 4/28/2008 2:40:58 PM |

Why don't you just get a sedan, then? They can carry baseball bats and coolers.4/28/2008 4:27:55 PM |

I can get you more vehicle for your budget than you will get from any used car lot. You tell me what you are looking for, I can find it. With a warranty even. PM me for more details, but I will be leaving tonight on business, back late tomorrow. 4/28/2008 5:30:48 PM |

^^^ yep. don't buy a truck to do a car's job. 4/28/2008 11:40:04 PM |

because i enjoy tailgaiting which a truck bed really helps out with. It's a lot better sitting in a truck bed, big or small, compared to the back bumper of a sedan.
and anyways, its not really about what i "want". it is about what i am probably getting. i was looking for input on the sport trac XLT, not chit-chat responses.

you aren't getting chit chat responses. you're getting garage responses. also, i don't know why in the hell you're bothering to ask for any advice or "input" when you're really just looking for affirmation on a decision you've already pretty much made.
here's the deal--a car, probably a sedan, will be better for you all the way around. you want to defy all logic and reason by getting a machine that will be inferior across the board for your intended use (bring some fucking foldings chairs if you want to tailgate--much as a car makes a better car than a truck does, a chair makes a better chair than a truck). if you really want to do this, despite it being a stupid idea, then go for it. Just recognize it as a stupid idea that you are going to do anyway, and don't give people like me any fucking lip for answering your question (that you don't really want an answer to, unless it happens to jive with what you've already decided).

if you get it just make sure the cruise control isn't under recall. if it is be sure to get it fixed or have full coverage insurance. ford's c.c. modules have been shorting out against the brake fluid reservoir and causing fires. 4/29/2008 10:13:27 AM |

ok, i missed this thread somehow, but like Ben said I did actually own one of these for quite some time.
the good: great looking little truck, tons of nice features and ample room to haul a good amount of people in. really good on oil and fluids and what not. is really nice when taking long trips because its pretty roomy and all the features help out everyone in the vehicle. the fold down seat in the back was niceeeeee
i had a speaker system in it that I could take out when i wanted to haul people due to the back seat the roll down back glass was nice, i dunno why but i just thought it was nice, i really liked the truck for all it had to offer. even had plenty of power to do some hauling that I had to do with livestock and boats and stuff
the bad: it wasnt good at ALL on gas, the engine isnt really made for that truck and especially when hauling...but back then gas wasnt too bad to handle. the bed wassss kind of small, but the extender made up for it, and unless you have some weird stuff to haul, it suits fine. just get the hitch and you'll be straight. the truck had SEVERE electrical problems, as I have seen with quite a few fords. I had to get the alternator replaced after about a year, and then the wiring replaced to the back of the truck after it shorted out. Ford did the recall on the CC and it never was a problem. THe paint on the interior started to chip away and all, but i guess thats normal wear and tear, although it seemed to happen fast.
other than the electrical problems(which will never let me buy a ford again) it was a great truck, I even miss it a little now, especially with a two seater car. overall, i liked it and would give it a b-
id certainly look into the toyota tho, or even the canyon. 4/30/2008 3:43:07 PM |
