its so weird how small it looks for holding so many people... I realize its because so much of it is below ground level but still, it just doesnt look that big 4/28/2008 8:17:25 PM |

yeah, seems like the seats at the top/rear would suck, you would be so far from everything 4/28/2008 8:21:00 PM |

well it'd suck to be at the very bottom, having to go up all those stairs 4/28/2008 8:24:08 PM |

Well one thing about Michigan Stadium that aids to it holding so many people is how close the seats are to each other. I think parking may not be a huge issue b/c of how big the student section is and a lot of them can walk to the stadium.

As far as parking, I'm guessing they use the golf course-that's what they do at the Rose Bowl 4/30/2008 3:54:36 PM |

i dunno about 2008 and the Big Eleven, but this program is gonna be scary good in a couple seasons once Elian Gonzalez gets a couple of his own recruiting classes in...them and Alabama are gonna be sick in a couple years...thats right, dont sleep on the Crimson Tide and new head coach Dick Vermeil 4/30/2008 4:16:53 PM |

Picked up QB's Kevin Newsome and Shavodrick Beaver for 2009. Newsome is a top 5 QB recruit.
I'll be looking for a Beaver jersey next year. 4/30/2008 5:18:12 PM |

4* QB 5 Kevin Newsome (Nebraska, North Carolina, Northwestern, Penn State, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Connecticut, Illinois, Florida, Maryland, UCLA)

There are two sets of high school teammates in this class so far. Campbell and Jones go to Cass Technical in Detroit, and Toussaint and Bell go to Liberty in Youngstown. 4/30/2008 6:33:34 PM |

a shit-ton of people park in the golf course... and the reason it fits so many people is due to how close the seats are together, as Brass Monkey mentioned. You're literally touching people on all 4 sides of you, and I'm relatively skinny...
interesting recruits thus far...
i'll be happy with a bowl game, 8 wins would be awfully nice, but I'm going to set my hopes for 7:
8/30 Utah - W 9/06 Miami (OH) - W 9/13 @ Notre Dame - W 9/27 Wisconsin - L 10/04 Illinois - W 10/11 Toledo - W 10/18 @ Penn State - L 10/25 Michigan State - W 11/01 @ Purdue - L 11/08 @ Minnesota - W 11/15 Northwestern - W 11/22 @ Ohio State - L
either ND, MSU or Illinois will be the 5th loss I think... hard to decide which though. (this is all assuming no catastrophe losses like last season ) 4/30/2008 8:36:27 PM |

Alright, maybe a dumb question, but am I going blind or are there no lights on that stadium? 5/1/2008 10:17:39 AM |
Brass Monkey All American 13560 Posts user info edit post |
There are no lights, they call in portable lights when they have to stage a night game. Same thing goes for Ohio State. One great thing about Michigan Stadium is that there is no advertising in the stadium. 5/1/2008 10:29:16 AM |

Man I hope they crush tOSU this year. I think it's both team's last scheduled game. So sick of seeing tOSU in the "Championship" game. Especially after they were gifted the appearance last year. 5/1/2008 11:07:51 AM |

The tOSU and Michigan game is always the last regular season game for both schools. That's one reason why it's so important. Look no further than Bo Schembechler's first year as an example.
Quote : | " In 1968, the year before Schembechler became head coach, Hayes made it clear how far Michigan had fallen behind its traditional rival, when the Wolverines lost 50-14. At the end of the game, Hayes decided to pursue a two-point conversion rather than a simple kick for an extra point. Legend has it that when Hayes was asked why he "went for two," he responded "Because I couldn't go for three." The embarrassment of that outcome set the stage for the 1969 rematch.
In 1969, the Buckeyes came into the game as defending national champions and 17-point favorites with the top ranking in the country and a 22-game winning streak. Hayes' 1969 squad included five first-team all-Americans. But Schembechler's 7-2 Wolverines dominated a team Hayes later considered his best, beating Ohio State 24-12." |

i believe the big house will have permanent lights once the $200mil stadium renovation is complete
hmm, not seeing anything about lighting on the renovation plan, but there is some interesting stuff: http://www.umich.edu/stadium/ http://www.umich.edu/stadium/project-description/
"Construction work will be phased over a three-year period in order not to interrupt home football games. It is expected to be completed prior to the 2010 fall football season."
